Text Messaging Helps Smokers Quit |
China has some of the highest numbers of smokers compared to any other country and accounts for over 40 percent of total cigarette consumption worldwide.
Quitting smoking is the best way to reduce the health risks associated with smoking including lung cancer and heart disease.
But in China, programs and services that provide help with quitting are not readily available even with the proven success of smoking cessation programs in other areas of the world.
Researchers from the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University in China conducted a study to test the effectiveness of an inexpensive cessation intervention program using text messages.
The study was published in the journal PLOS Medicine, and the results show that mobile phone interventions could be an effective method to help smokers quit.

Taxing Text Messages |
Californians worried their text messages might soon be taxed can rejoice: The proposal has been pulled.
In a statement released via Twitter over the weekend, California's Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) announced it would no longer be pursuing the measure that would have added a surcharge to phone bills.
On Dec. 12, 2018, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a declaratory ruling finding that text messaging is an information service, not a telecommunications service, under the Federal Telecommunications Act, the CPUC wrote in its statement.

PageGate Filter Pack |
The PageGate Filter Pack is an add-on that allows for message processing, substitution and filtering.
The PageGate Filter Pack is used in conjunction with the Command Line ASCII Interface, enabling PageGate to pass all messages through a customizable filter. This gives PageGate the power to completely reformat the contents of, or extract data from the original message text. Extracting message data from textual data formats like HTML, XML, JSON, etc. is possible using the Filter Pack.
The Filter Pack also support logic operations, allowing for variable output conditional on the content of the original message. In addition, the Filter Pack supports a powerful RegEx (regular expression) engine, opening the possibility of data extraction from just about any data file format.

The Command Line / ASCII - Text API is one of several ways that PageGate can accept incoming messages |
The Command Line ASCII Text API is capable of monitoring a directory or a series of directories on the local hard drive or across the network, for an ASCII/text file output. The interface also provides a command line interface (executable) for other applications to use. The messages can then be formatted or directed to mobile phones or wireless devices.
The Text API allows many 'off the shelf' and custom applications, such as network monitoring applications, computer aided dispatch applications, building control software and many others, to deliver messages when specified events occur or thresholds are met.

Using GSM -AT to Send Text Messages |
PageGate supports communicating with wireless hardware (i.e. modems, phones, routers, etc.) that support the AT Command Set as defined in the GSM specification. This includes the vast majority of cellular/mobile/wireless modems available today.
Using a wireless modem, wireless router, or other similar hardware can be the most reliable and efficient method to deliver SMS text messages. Wireless hardware removes an organization's reliance on an active Internet connection, or other wired connection when sending messages. Another advantage is that the only piece of information necessary to deliver messages via a wireless modem, is the recipient's phone number.

How Text Messaging Improves Hotel Staff Efficiency |
When a guest stays at your hotel, you’re not just offering them a room or a place to sleep — you are providing an experience. Everything from the unique design of your hotel, to the personalized service you provide plays a pivotal role in creating this experience. However, even after you have gone the extra mile to create a memorable experience for your guests, if your staff isn’t efficient, you’ll be memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Outdated processes and antiquated technology burn precious time and resources, inhibiting hotel staffs ability to be productive and focus on delivering a great guest experience. Because of this, hotels have been increasingly turning to a technology that we all have at our disposal: text messaging.
While it may seem like a mundane technology for us, texting is an extremely powerful tool for hotels for its unique ability to improve a multitude of areas — from service to collecting guest feedback and even increasing positive reviews. How Text Message Communication Improves Patient Outreach |
The process, which ideally would be marked with efficiency and high patient engagement levels, too often left patients and providers stuck in a back and forth of phone calls.
For years, Hambsh and his colleagues called patients to manage appointments. Phone lines would get tied up with schedulers making up to 500 calls a day trying to get patients into the clinic, or patients trying to cancel or reschedule their appointments.
