The review also found public officials have sometimes
used text messaging for substantive discussions with
lobbyists and others.
Both Orange County and the Greater Orlando Aviation
Authority acknowledged to the Sentinel that some of
their board members and senior staffers have erased
or otherwise lost government-related text messages
that can no longer be recovered.

Text Message to Start Your Car |
You could buy one of those remote ignitions, but
then you gotta carry around an extra block on your
keychain, and its range is not so great. Will OBrien
came up with a better idea – starting your car with
your iPhone by sending it an SMS. It is brilliant,
and anyone can replicate his hack.
All you need to make the hack work is a jailbroken
iPhone, an Arduino, an iPhone breakout board, and
some random components.

01/07/2013 Storage
of Text Messages |
Text me. Wait, do not. Not anything too private anyway.
That is because if a new proposal is approved by the
Senate, each and every SMS message you send will be
stored in a digital archive by your phone provider.
Why, you ask? It's all in the name of law enforcement
being able to using your messages as evidence to catch
bad guys and solve cases. And it's also a government-sponsored
privacy nightmare come to reality.
If passed, the proposal would be the first major update
to the 27-year-old Electronic Communications Privacy
Act, and the latest in a string of blatant challenges
to the Fourth Amendment, which served to protect citizens
rights and information, unless law enforcement was
granted a court-issued warrant.
But if this SMS-retention requirement makes it into
law, the nearly 2.3 trillion text messages Americas
321.7 million wireless subscribers send in a year
would all become the property of the Federal government,
stored in a repository for 2 years.

01/04/2013 Text Over
Talk |
Americans are finding out what Carriers have known
for years, consumers are using their Verizon, Sprint,
AT&T and T-Mobile cell phones less and less for
talking, but they are not saying any less. A new study
by the Pew Research Center found that people are using
their cell phones for a lot more than making calls.
The study found that 82 percent of cell phone users
take pictures with their phone, 80 percent use it
to send and receive text messages, 56 percent use
it to access the Internet, and 50 percent use it for
email correspondence.
The Pew study found that nearly all cell phone users
ages 18-29 use cell phones for texting. Almost all
other age demographics send text messages from their
cell phones, except those 65 years old and over, who
do not utilize texting as frequently. Furthermore,
the amount of text messages that are sent every year
is rapidly increasingly.

12/30/2012 Text Messaging
Losing to Social Media? |
Text messaging may be going the way of the LP, and
social media might be to blame for the decline in
SMS in a more-connected-than-ever world.
Text messaging came to prominence in the early to
mid-00s, as people realized they did not have to actually
get on the phone to pass on a brief message to a friend,
colleague or family member. Soon text messaging supplanted
phone calls as the preferred method of communication
between connected individuals, with the exception
of a few texting abstainers who remained insistant
that the process was confusing, annoying or inconvenient.
