Bullying in school is hardly a new problem, but in many cases today, it does not look like it once did.

It is gone high-tech, enabling children to target one another through Facebook, Twitter, email, instant messaging and text messaging, in addition to face-to-face.

Facebook has denied a report in the Sunday Times in London that the social network is secretly reading the text messages of users who have downloaded its mobile app.

Facebook filed for its initial public offering Feb.1, giving us more insight how the tech titan operates. Here is a look at some of the social networking giant is shareholders and their affiliations with the company.
In a statement, Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes said that the permission to access text messages is clearly listed in the apps terms and conditions, but that the company currently is not reading text messages.

Researchers from Denver Health and Hospital Authority, a medical school, found that patients with diabetes who received text message reminders and prompts throughout the week reported increased accountability, social support, and awareness of health information. The Researchers found that 79 percent of the participants responded to more than 50 percent of the prompts, according to the study’s results which were recently published in the American Journal of Managed Care. About 66 percent provided glucose readings when their care provided prompted them by text message, compared to the 12 percent that provided readings at two previous clinic visits.
