method of reaching customer support, according to

a New Component of Movies and Entertainment |
In the last decade, movies and television have sprouted
a new plot weakness: if tension hinged in any way
on a situation that could have been solved by a simple
cell phone call or text message, the call was never
placed and the text was never sent. To forget the
pervasiveness of cell phones, and the ease with which
we can tell each other things, is a crime.
But cell phones and digital messages have managed
to worm their way into the storytelling in movies
and TV despite a supposed natural ineptitude at stirring
up drama. A text message is dispassionate, free of
emotion and all too open to interpretation, according
to some literature on the importance of, say, tone
of voice, facial expressions, and body language. But
TV shows and movies have managed to integrate these
dispassionate messages to logistical and, surprisingly,
emotional effect, reflecting the significance that
messaging has gained for us over the years.

Messaging |
To say a text-messaging program between high school
students and four colleges and universities in West
Virginia is working would be an understatement.

a three-year pilot project in January that utilizes
text-messaging to promote college access and support
student success for a high school senior through his
or her freshmen year.

Sends Cash Flying |
A group of enterprising cybercriminals have figured
out how to get cash from a certain type of ATM by
text message.
The latest development was spotted by security vendor
Symantec, which has periodically written about a type
of malicious software it calls Ploutus that
first appeared in Mexico.
The malware is engineered to plunder a certain type
of standalone ATM, which Symantec has not identified.
The company obtained one of the ATMs to carry out
a test of how Ploutus works, but it does not show
a brand name.

with just 204 phone calls. That was the second repeated
quarter in which texting significantly surpassed the
number of voice calls.

Warning Systems May Save Lives |
Text messaging may be dying out as a means of communication
in many parts of the advanced world, but it may yet
prove to be a vital life-saver in flood-prone African
villages.
An early-warning system that aims to capitalize on
the explosive growth of mobile phone penetration in
Africa could soon be in place to broadcast alerts
to all users at risk from natural disasters such as
flooding or hurricanes.

Texting |
Sometimes it is the little things that matter. Like
being able to carry on texting without walking into
a tree. Apple apparently thinks so anyway.
A patent that Cupertino filed back in September 2012
has just surfaced with the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office that shows the company thinking up ways to
help people keep walking and texting without bumping
into stuff.
The transparent texting system replaces the background
of a mobile devices text messaging app with a continuous
real-time video feed, using the devices rear camera,
so the user can both see what’s being said, and
where they are going.
