How to Configure PageGate to Send Email

Welcome to the video tutorial on how to configure PageGate to send email. In this tutorial, we'll be reviewing the different delivery and authentication methods the software supports.

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, is the protocol for sending email and PageGate supports two methods: Relayed and Direct. Almost all installations will use the relayed method of delivery.

Before you can configure PageGate to send email, you need to know: 1) What SMTP server do you have access to? 2) On what port should you connect? Most installations will use port 587 with a STARTTLS security handshake. 3) Is authentication required? Most mail servers will require PageGate to authenticate by providing a fully licensed email address and its password. 4) Is OAUTH required? If you're using Office365's mail relay, you will need to configure OAUTH authentication.

Once you have that information, open PageGate Admin. Right click on Carriers and select Add. Give the carrier a name. Set the protocol to SMTP. Set the port to match the SMTP server's requirement. Set the 'Max Chars' field to 16000. Click Apply.

Go to the Advanced sub-section of your new carrier. Enter your SMTP server's address in the outgoing mail server field. If authentication is required, enter it in the Username and Password fields. Click Apply.

Go to the Template sub-section of your new carrier and in the 'Settings' section, enter: From = The authentication account used. Click Apply. All that remains is to add recipients tied to this carrier.

For direct delivery, right click on Carriers and select Add. Set the protocol to SMTP and the port to 25. Set the 'Max Chars' to 16000 and click Apply. Note that direct delivery means PageGate will function as a mail server and you will need to provision A, MX, PTR, SPF and DKIM records.
