I can't seem to get a text message to Cingular cell phones. The subscriber has the enterprise paging feature setup. I can get MCTP to work successfully, I want to setup the backup as TAP. What should be entered in for password on the TAP setup screen within PageGate? I have tried using the assigned security code as well as the pollerID/SenderID

I do not believe that a password is required for their TAP.

Can you post a TAP connection attempt (from your Dialer log)?
Remember to obscure the Recipient ID/Pin from in the post.

I created the modem.dbg log file, however, nothing ever get's written to the log file. Logging is enabled, I stopped and started Page Gate still no change.

Nothing is ever written to the "modem.dbg".

It only acts as a flag, telling the dialer executables to write debugging info into their respective logs (PGDial1.log, PGDial2.log etc.).

Look in "PGDial1.log".

Hi,

The TAP number you are using is owned and operated by ATT Enterprise Paging (enterprisepaging.com). This division of ATT was one of the main reasons that Cingular bought them (valuable customer base). Keep in mind - the TAP number will only work for phones that have had ATT Enterprise Paging activated (@$9.95 MONTHLY ADDITIONAL FEE) and no Cingular phones have been added to that terminal (yet). THe merger is complete on a corporate and marketing scale, but they have a LOOOOONG way to go before the back end stuff is merged.

Are you sure you are using

1200 Baud Rate (or 300)
Even Parity
1 Stop Bit
7 Data Bits.

Question marks in the log (like below) usually indicate incorrect Parity

"2/8/2004 10:32:02 AM Received:???? "

Also, you did state that WCTP worked for the Cingular ID/Pin through the ATT WCTP server?

You wrote "MCTP", I just assumed "WCTP"

Yes I have verified that the carrier is setup to use 1200 baud rate, even parity, 7 data bits, and 1 stop bits.

To address the other post, our devices are from the pre-merger ATT&T , we have added the enterprise paging gateway feature to all devices.

WCTP does functioning properly for these devices, we just have a need for TAP for failover in case we lose internet connectivity.

Try 1200, 8 Data, "None" Parity, and 1 Stop.

I can connect and initialize TAP with that terminal using those settings.

I set this to 9600, 8,N, 1 and everything works fine now.

Since AT&T Wireless got rid of their TAp number a while back, will the Cingular TAP numer work for the AT&T Wireless customers that haven't switched over to Cingular yet? Thanks for the replies!

Just a note, the page went via the modem by using Cingular's tap number. It said the page was sent successfully but I received no message on the phone. Thanks!

Cingular in most markets will accept the message through their terminal but will not pass it through to the phone unless the customer has specifically requested that the phone's e-mail address has been activated. They do charge extra for this feature (in New England, it's about $2 / month)
