In the Recipeint configuration "Settings" Option there is a "Send Subject" Option. Is the test sent with "Send Subject" configurable for SMTP Carrier oriented Recipients?

This is important for us becasue we route messages with specific text based on rules in Microsoft Exchange. Messages from PageGate need to be explicitly called out or distinguishable in the subject line.

Thanks!

Izzy

Sorry, some spelling errors in that post. I'll try it again:

The subject can be extracted from the message text. If you put a colon somewhere in the first 80 characters of the message text, and have the 'Send Subject' box checked, whatever is before the colon will be used as the subject of the email that PageGate sends out.

Hope that helps.

That's great, thank you! Where should I have found that documented? I looked for it and didn't see it.

I'm afraid that if it is documented at all, it isn't easy to find.

Sorry.

Additionally, if SEND SUBJECT is checked, and there is nothing in the message body that fits the definition of SUBJECT, PageGate will place the words "Text Message" in the subject field of the SMTP protocol. This helps eliminate the recipient's email system of treating the message as spam. This feature is available with version 5 (yet another reason to upgrade for those of you still running v4)

Thanks for the candor. I've got just one more question then I'll let you be...

What special characters cause problems with Sendpage32.exe?

I'll be sending text from event messages from my systems management platform (BMC Event and Impact Manager) and the message content may have a number of different characters depending on what the source sends.

If you have a list of the special characters that cannot be used, that would help me save a lot of time and limit the amount of testing I would need to do.

Thanks!

Izzy

The answer depends primarily on the recipient's wireless carrier - for example, many paging terminals can be kicked into "diagnostic" mode and thereby rendered useless for message processing (until power cycle) by sending a certain string preceded by a "#" or "@".

All printable characters should be fine (i.e. ASCII codes between 32 and 126 decimal).
