I am having problems getting Pagegate 4 to work while running as a windows service. All I am trying to do is have the GetMail plugin check a mailbox and send the pages out. When running as an application, Pagegate works. If I switch it to run as a service, it does not check the mailbox. According to the Pagegate logs and the windows services, everything is starting normal. I have tried creating a local account on the box as well as a domain administrator network account, both with "Log On As Service" permissions. I have also enabled DEP for the program. Any ideas?

After you switch the run style to a Service, go into the Services list. You should see a PageGate MailServer service. Does it start or will it start when you tell it to?

Before we go any further, I'd like to tangentally mention that since you're using the GetMail module, I'd highly recommend upgrading to version 5. Like... really, really recommend.

In any event, try this:

1) Open a command prompt.

2) Change directory into the PageGate Program directory (typically c:\program files\pagegate\)

3) Once there, type the following and hit enter: pgmailserver /reinstall

Check the services list after you do that and you should see a PageGate MailServer service. Try to start it.

PGMailServer was listed and I started it. That seemed to work. What is the advantage of upgrading to 5?

Mostly stability updates and program modifications that we've made to the way GetMail and the MailServer run. It's a bit more stable than in version 4 and generally runs a bit better.
