How to Upgrade to PageGate version 10 Transcript for Video:
Welcome to the video tutorial on how to upgrade to PageGate version 10. In this tutorial, we'll be going over how to upgrade an existing installation of PageGate to the latest version.
The first step is to make a backup of the current configuration. To do so, open PG Admin then go to the Program - Settings section.
Here on the right, you'll see the database directory and we'll need to browse into that folder. So, open a file browser in Windows and browse into the database directory.
Once here, you should see a file named 'pagegate.mdb'. Make a copy of this file somewhere convenient and rename it as an obvious backup.
Now that we have our backup, open a web browser and go to our website, www.notepage.net
Here in the middle of the PageGate, open a web browser and go to our website, www.notepage.net
Here in the middle of the page, you'll see the PageGate section. Please click the download button and save the setup file somewhere convenient.
While the setup file is downloading, close PG Admin and Monitor.
Once the setup file is downloaded, right click on it and select 'Run as Administrator'. When prompted by the UAC, you do want to allow this process to continue.
After the installation extracts, you'll be presented with four installation options.
The only one we're interested in is the top object, Install PageGate server. It's important to note that you will need to update any workstation installations of the PageGate Admin, Monitor and Client after you upgrade the server to a newer version.
So, select 'Install PageGate Server'.
Select whether you want to view the read me file or the release notes, then click Next.
Please review the end user license agreement, select 'I accept the agreement', then click Next.
Select whether you want to have a shortcut created on your desktop and click Next.
Click Install.
When the process finishes, click Finish.
Now that we have the new version installed, we'll need to upgrade the database and register the program. To do so, right click on the shortcut for PG Admin and select 'Run as Administrator'.
When prompted, you do want to upgrade the database.
After the database has been upgraded, it should then prompt you for your PageGate version 10 registration key.
You can manually enter the key but you can also save yourself a lot of time by using this 'Paste Registration from Clipboard' button.
If you have access to the registration email or a copy of the full registration key, highlight the entire key like this. You'll need to be sure to select everything from ---Start of Registration Key Information--- to ---End of Registration Key Information---, then copy it to the clipboard.
Here in the registration screen, click the 'Paste Registration from Clipboard' button.
After entering your registration key, click Apply and it should notify you that the program is now registered.
Close the registration panel and it should notify you that PageGate needs to be restarted.
Click OK, then right click on the shortcut for PG Admin and select 'Run as Administrator'.
Go to the Program - Settings section.
In the 'Run PageGate as' section, select 'Windows Service' and click Apply.
When it prompts you for credentials, leave them blank and click Apply again.
After 'Switching Run Styles' goes away, right click on the PageGate object and select 'Start Server'. Then right click again and select 'Start Monitor' to verify that the services have started.
