HP Openview Integration

Steps to Use HP Openview with PageGate

Send Text and SMS Messages from HP Openview
PageGate can be easily integrated with HP Openview by using the GetAscii interface's command line integration.

The first step is to create a directory for the command line executable to reside within. If PageGate is installed on the Openview system, we recommend creating c:\PageGateData\Openview\. If PageGate is installed on a separate system, this can be a directory that you've shared on the Openview system or it can be a directory you've shared on the PageGate server for Openview to reference. However, if GetAscii will be referencing a network resource, you will need to provide a service account to the GetAscii Windows service to allow it permission to access the network location.

Once you have the directory created and accessible from both the PageGate and Openview systems, here's what you will need to do:

1) Open PG Admin.

2) Go to Interfaces - GetAscii - Settings.

3) Set the 'Polling Directory' to the directory you've just created and shared. By default, c:\PageGateData\Openview\

4) Check Enabled.

5) Click Apply.

6) When prompted, you do want this enabled for all recipients and groups.

Now that the command line executable is available, you'll need to create a 'Policy Group' in Openview:

1) In the HP Operations Manager Console, expand 'Policy Management'.

2) Right click on 'Policy Groups', mouse over 'New' and select 'Policy group'

3) Give the policy group a name, something straightforward like 'Alerts' or 'Notifications'

4) Right click on the new policy group, mouse over 'New' and select 'Windows Event Log'

5) Specify the Event Log to be monitored. For example, System or Application.

6) Select the 'Rules' tab.

7) On the right hand side, click 'New'

8) Give the rule a description, something straightforward like SMS Alerts or PageGate Alerts.

9) Specify the conditions to match. For example, you could select a source to equal 'error' to tell HP Openview that any time an error appears associated with the selected source, your people should be messaged.

10) Select the 'Actions' tab.

11) Select 'Active Msg. Browser and...'

12) Select the 'Automatic Command' tab.

13) In the 'Command' section, enter the following:
"c:\PageGateData\Openview\sendpage32.exe"

For example, if you wanted to send a message to the IT_Alerts group from the sender Openview and the message should say "Event Log error encountered, $R, $A", you would use this command:
"c:\PageGateData\Openview\sendpage32.exe" IT_Alerts Openview Event Log error encountered, $R, $A

14) Select a Node.

15) Click OK.

16) Click OK again.

17) Click "Save and Close"

18) Provide a name for the rule.

19) Right click on the new rule, mouse over 'All Tasks' and select 'Deploy on'

20) Select the name of a monitored computer and click OK.

At this point, you should now be able to implement your new SMS Alerts notification system.
