I have my paging now working through Page Gate using the Ascii and Mail interface (soon will be using Web too). I have a modem and want to set it up to send all pages via the modem if the network is down and SMTP fails. I was under the impression that I did not need to purchase the GetTap interface to do this. Sales told me that it was built into the application but I can't figure out how to set it up.

Any help?

Tricia,

The ability to SEND TAP is a built in function of the program. Some carriers, though, such as T-Mobile, don't support the TAP protocol, so you won't be able to configure a TAP failover for them. Here's how to create a TAP failover carrier:

1) Open the PageGate Admin.

2) Right click on Carriers, left click on Add.

3) Name the carrier whatever you please.

4) Set the Protocol to: TAP

5) Have a look here for the TAP number for the carrier: http://www.notepage.net/tap-phone-numbers.htm

6) The TAP standard is as follows: 1200 baud, even parity, 7 data bits, 1 stop bit

7) Click on Apply.

8) Go into the Advanced section of the original carrier. For example, if you just created a NextelTAP carrier, go into the Advanced section of your Nextel carrier.

9) Set the failover to the TAP carrier you just created.
