GetTap interface does not accept connection after some time of successfully receiving messages.
There is no log that gives an obvious reason about it not accepting connections. The only indication of it failing on the log file is that there are logs of the text "RING" on several lines in the PGGTap.log. I was able to catch it several times as it was happening and I tried connecting to it by dialing the GetTap telephone number and I can hear that there was no handshake that is happening. The only way to recover from this is to restart the GetTap Service. After the restart, everything goes back to normal. This happens almost on a daily basis.
Is this a bug? or is this a known issue and there is already already a solution?

This sounds like a hardware issue. Can you make sure your logging level is set to DEBUG, duplicate the error, and post the logs?_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

I have already set this to Debug level before ... and this was what I was able to catch ... This is the entry on the PGTap.log...

7/30/2008 4:56:10 PM Restarting
Note: I just cut the long "RING" logs to save space ...
Additionally, all I have to do for PageGate to recover is to restart the PageGate GetTap service.
This happens almost 1 or 2x a week ... a temporary workaround i did was to create a scheduled task to restart the service (GetTap) every hour but the service hangs after several restarts that I have to reboot the whole machine manually =(

I hate to sound flippant - but it looks like a modem issue - if the sending hardware is colocated with the PageGate PC, have you considered the Direct Connection option for getTAP - that would eliminate modem issues
Can you obtain the connection logs for the same event from the SENDING system? That may help narrow this down_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

The sending pager is thousand miles away from the PageGate server ... It's hard to believe that it is a modem issue for this reason ===>>>> the modem is an integrated modem and if it hangs, i would probably need to reboot the whole pc to recover from the gettap errors. Now, the only thing I usually do to recover from it is to .. restart the Get Tap service.
==>> From a usual log .. I noticed that after the "modem hung" the Get Tap service usually sends this command to the modem to set it to "auto answer"
10/6/2008 3:31:13 PM Sent:ATS0=1<CR>
10/6/2008 3:31:13 PM Received:ATS0=1<CR>
Now, during the issue ... after the "modem hung up" ... you'll notice that there are no lines like this ... is this normal?

Do I understand correctly that you are using a 2 way pager to send the original message to a pager receiver attached to your PC via getTAP? If so, you should be using getSERIAL instead.
Please email the details and specs of your set up offline - We have implemented many remote monitoring and alerting applications and I might be able to offer a more efficient and reliable solution._________________ Aaron D. Osgood

I may have used the wrong term ... when I said "sending pager" .. I meant another Paging Server similar to PageGate.
Here is a simple description of how messages flow on my setup...
1.) a Paging server (offsite) dials the direct number assigned to the GetTap interface of my PageGate Server and forwards messages to recipients.
2.) My PageGate Server then forwards this messages via the GSM modem used by my connector to the Mobile Phone Service Providers
If there is a more efficient way of doing this, Please let me know and I shall contact you offline =)

A far more efficient way would be to eliminate the dial portion. We have done this in several locations by adding the optional getSNPP module to the PageGate, and configuring the sending platform to deliver the message traffic via SNPP_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

I'll keep note of your recommendation.
Do you have any client installation that is similar to our setup but are not having such problems? (I have around approx. 200 users and a daily average of around 40 to 50 messages.

I have installed many systems based on PageGate and are being used exactly as you describe - most of them are doing 700 - 1000 messages daily. I still think your underlying issue is hardware/driver related - after reviewing the posts, I'm leaning more and more toward looking at the SENDING end_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

"SENDING End" -- do you mean the system sending to the GetTap interface?
Is there any particular reason why we would need to check on the sending side? - I don't know if this matter but during this incident I also tried using another pagegate setup and it was also failing - there was no handshake/ no auto-answer. All I need to correct the system is to restart the GetTap Service(alone) and it always does the job. I already hardcoded the autoanswer setting on the modem but I don't think it helped.
Anyway, I shall be doing further investigation of all the parameters/ contributors to my setup. It is good to know that there are other setups similar to mine that are working fine. If I ever find out what has been causing my GetTap interface to hung ... I'll post it here. If you have any other ideas or need more info, just let me know. I appreciate your assistance =)
