I am in Chicago and trying to setup NotePager Pro. As a test I am trying to set myself up to see if it will go correctly. I tried a part of yesterday and today, it is not working. Monitor window gives error “Disconnected”, “Message not accepted”.
I am using internet from SBC with Domain=sbcglobal.net and DNS1= xxx.xxx.192.60 and DNS2= xxx.xxx.193.55. I am using SMTP for US Cellular with Recipient setting is Type=Normal, Carrier=SMTP and Email to=1234567890@email.uscc.net. I do not know what I am doing wrong. Please help me. Thanks.

There's one baseline test I'd like you to run that'll let us know if you can use DNS for direct deliver or if you have to deliver your messages through a mail server:

1) In Windows, go to Start - Run.

2) Type the following and click on OK: command

3) In the command prompt, type the following and hit enter:

telnet notepage.com 25

Let us know what happens when you do that.

The result is a error message "Could not open a connection to host on 25 : Connect failed"

I understand this must be port closed by SBC, my internet provider. Is there any way around?

Thanks.

There isn't a way directly around it short of asking the ISP to open port 25 but SMTP has two delivery methods. Direct deliver through port 25 and, when port 25 is shut off, delivery through a local email server.

So, you'll need to contact your ISP's tech support and ask them these things:

1) What is my SMTP server?

2) Is it authenticated?

2a) If it is authenticated, what authentication information is required?

Once you have that information, please email support at notepage dot com and let us know and we'll let you know the rest of the configuration requirements.

Their reply is:
SMTP Server is smtp.att.yahoo.com and it is authenticated
It uses SSL through port 465

thanks for your help.

NotePager Pro software unfortunately can't be used with ISPs that require authentication.

PageGate v5 software supports authentication. Download a free evaluation at http://www.notepage.net/software.htm
