An interesting one...
your documentation says to use wctp.americanmessaging.net port 80... however, when you register for WCP the response says to use wctp.myairmail.com/wctp port 80
needless to say, it does not work at all using the wctp.americanmessaging.net port 80 configuration... (you may want to verify and update your documentation...)
however, it does somewhat work using the wctp.myairmail.com/wctp .... When I send a test page and watch the dialer log, I receive the following response...
4/25/2007 10:29:57 AM Received:
4/25/2007 10:29:57 AM <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
4/25/2007 10:29:57 AM <!DOCTYPE wctp-Operation SYSTEM "http://wctp.myairmail.com/wctp/wctp-dtd-v1r1.dtd">
4/25/2007 10:29:57 AM <wctp-Operation wctpVersion="wctp-dtd-v1r1.dtd" wctpToken="x229"><wctp-Confirmation><wctp-Success successText="Message Accepted" successCode="200"/></wctp-Confirmation></wctp-Operation>
after all this I get:
4/25/2007 10:29:57 AM Invalid response from host
4/25/2007 10:29:57 AM Failed Attempt Stn:0 To:ctroutwi-wctp Frm:xxx Msg:this is teat 579
it then tries two more times and then
4/25/2007 10:30:18 AM Carrier retry limit reached. Marking pending messages as bad
Oh... BTW... I get the page successfully after the first attempt... (no duplicates)
Any Ideas????

Interesting things happen to hosts when companies merge and sub-let their hosts to other companies. wctp.americanmessaging.net/wctp used to be the primary American Messaging host whereas now their primary hosts are wctp.myairmail.com/wctp and snpp.americanmessaging.net
As for the "Invalid response from host" message, American Messaging implemented an updated version of the WCTP language when they transitioned their primary hosts, one that the older builds of PageGate had a few issues with. They would still deliver the messages but the program itself would think that the message failed because it didn't receive the specific 'end' command it was looking for.
To fix the error, all you should have to do is update your build of PageGate to the latest installation.

the download just says v4.0 (no build or subversion information)... should I just go ahead and redownload and install it?

The build on the website is 4.0.0.96
Browse to your PageGate program directory on the hard drive and go into the properties of the pagegate.exe file. Check under the version tab and that should let you know what build you're using.
If you're using a build previous to 4.0.0.96, go ahead and update. If you're using build 4.0.0.96, let me know.

That's odd. What's the date stamp on the Created and Modified for the pagegate.exe?

Ah, now I understand. I'd forgotten that the developement team hasn't actually changed the specific build number in a year or so (mostly due to the fact that we've been heavily working on version 5, so no more 'point' releases for version 4 have been slated).
In any event, if you update to the version of 4.0.0.96 on the website, it should fix the WCTP issue.

I realize this may seem like a terribly silly question but it just dawned on me that this thread was posted in the NotePager 32 and NotePager Pro Support forum.
Are you using PageGate or NotePager Pro? I know we've been talking about PageGate, I just want ot make sure.

Do you have a pager we could attempt to send a few messages to? We'd like to try to duplicate the error but haven't been able to so far. If you would, please email a pager number we can test to support at notepage dot com

I've received the email and have been able to duplicate the problem. I've sent this over to the developement team and will post an answer when I have one.
