The PageGate scheduler continues to queue up the incoming pager requests, but the dialer services do not always startup after the cleanup routine runs each night. This is a huge reliability issue.

All sixteen of the dialer services are stopped but the PageGate and Scheduler service remain running. The dialer services are manually individually started and then immediately die. They seem to stay running only after first stopping then starting the PageGate service. But will run only until the cleanup routine runs, when they are stopped, started, and stopped within a few seconds.

Additional information:
=> The dialers do not always synchronize the time with the scheduler [using local time].
=> The dialer services do not fail, they are automatically stopped.

The environment:
=> Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Service Pack 1 + several security updates
=> Dell PowerEdge 1950
=> Intel Xeon 2.8GHz
=> 2GB RAM
=> Member of an 2003 Active Directory Domain

If you would, please go into the PageGate directory and go into the properties of the pagegate.exe and let us know version you're running.

We've made a few modifications and fixed a few problems regarding Server 2003 in build 4.0.0.96, which is more recent than what you have installed now. So, here's what I'd like you to do:

1) Make a backup copy of your c:\program files\pagegate\pagegate.mdb file - this file contains all of your registration, carrier, recipient, mailbox, and connectors information.

2) Make a backup copy of the c:\program files\pagegate\mailboxes\ directory, if it exists.

3) We've posted a new build of PageGate on our website, so download the new installation from here: http://www.notepage.net (click on the download button under the PageGate section in the center of the page).

4) Shut PageGate down. Make sure that the system services are stopped, close the Admin, close the Monitor, and make sure nothing regarding PageGate is still running.

5) Uninstall PageGate. When prompted, select the full uninstall option.

6) Once the full uninstallation of Pagegate is complete, reboot the computer.

7) After the computer has been rebooted, manually browse to the c:\program files\ directory and if the PageGate directory still exists, delete it.

8) Use the pgv4.exe file you downloaded in step 3 to install the latest build of PageGate (select the PageGate Server option when prompted).

9) Now that we've got PageGate reinstalled, run the Admin.

10) Ignore the dialog that pops up, just click on Apply. It will tell you a new database has been created and PAgeGate must be restarted.

11) BEFORE you run the Admin again, take that copy of the pagegate.mdb file you made in step 1 and copy it back into the c:\program files\pagegate directory.

12) It'll ask if you want to overwrite the file, say yes.

13) If any of your recipients use mailboxes, restore the Mailboxes directory that you backed up in step 2.

14) Run the PageGate Admin again. Everything should be there (carriers, recipients, connector information, registration, all of it).

15) The last thing is to go to Program - Settings in the PageGate Admin and switch it to have PageGate run as a Windows NT service.

16) Once PageGate has been switched to run as a Service, left click once on the icon of the pager in your system tray and tell it to start.

I will download and install the latest version. However, new information has just surfaced...

Previously, I was just looking at the logs of dialer1. Dialers 2 through 16 show an additional message which sheds a bit more light on the problem:

Module stopped. Evaluation version run for [3-5]* days.

* each dialer reports a different number here at exactly the same time. But dialer1 does not report this message.

Ah, I was under the assumption that you had the registration for all 16 dialers. If the dialer modules are stopping themselves after giving this error, it means that the registration isn't in place for them. To double check this, however, please go to the Registration portion of the PageGate Admin. It should list, on the right hand side, how many dialers you purchased and have access to. Is the number of dialer there 1? If so, that's why Dialers 2- 16 are turning themselves off.

I now see that dialers cost more. How much for additional dialers?

Additional Dialers are $100.00 each and can be purchased at http://www.notepage.net/upgrade-order-forms.htm

When upgrading Additional Dialers we need PageGate's 4-5 digit Serial Number, which is located in the PageGate Admin module in the 'Registration' screen.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
