How to automatically forward email messages to recipients?

I have installed and configured PageGate (server). I have also configured a "carrier" for SMTP email. Additionally I have created a "test recipient" which uses the carrier to deliver messages via SMTP to the test recipient.

I'm able to send a test message from PageGate manually from within the PageGate Admin application (by right clicking on the recipient, then selecting Send Message). The test messages work fine and are received by the recipient (an external email account).

Ok, so I know I have the PageGate server setup correctly, at least to a degree.

My issue is that I do not see how I can get PageGate to send out messages "automatically" to the same test recipient that I sent the manual messages to?

From reading about the features of PageGate it seems as though PageGate has the ability to receive email messages and then forward them to recipients setup within PageGate (below I'm pasting straight from the documentation what I think is the feature I'm looking for) -but I cannot find out how this is done anywhere in the documentation.

What I would like to do is have my network monitoring applications send email notifications to PageGate & PageGate in turn automatically send out notifications to recipients setup within PageGate. This way all of our monitoring apps can use one single email address (to PageGate) and PageGate can then sort out and send the actual notifications to our network support staff (based on the on-call groups setup inside of PageGate).

Can anyone fill me in on how / where PageGate is configured to accept email messages and then forward them to PageGate's recipients (automatically)?

Received mail messages can also be forwarded to additional email accounts. This front-end includes a fully functional mail server and may be used by itself or in conjunction with existing mail servers. "

The feature you need is the optional getMAIL module -

It's part of PageGate by default.

All you have to do to enable it is go to the PageGate Admin and go to the Program - Settings section. Once there, where it says "Run on this server", put a check next to GetMail and click on Apply.

After you've done that, go to the Interfaces - GetMail - Settings section. Configure the module as per your needs and put a check in "Enabled", then click on Apply.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I actually had preformed the steps outlined above but I wasn't sure that was the actual "getmail module" -as I didn't see "many settings" and thought there may be something more that I was missing.

Now that GetMail is running on my PageGate Server, how do I configure it so that when email messages are sent to the PageGate Server, those email messages will be forward to the recipient's that I have setup in PageGate.

Again, I can send out notifications perfectly fine with PageGate manually (by right clicking on a recipient in PageGate and choosing to send a message) but what we need on our network is the ability to have our Network Monitoring applications send an email message to PageGate and then for PageGate to in turn forward those messages to the On-Call group that I have setup within PageGate.

I don't see where you setup the options for receiving specific email messages to PageGate (like where I would tell PageGate to "look for" emails from my Monitoring Software)?

Also, I do not see where I can tell PageGate to send (forward) an email message received from the Monitoring Software to PageGate.

In other words how do you tell PageGate "who" <like the on-call group for instance> to send the forwarded messages to?

Is it possible for our Monitoring Applications to send out emails to PageGate & then for PageGate to recognize a message from a specific sender (each different monitoring application that we are running) & for PageGate in turn to send a message to a related recipient <on-call group again for instance>?

There are a few options, really. To do what you want to do, though, this is the easiest solution.

Buy an email domain or, if you already have one, have the MX Record for the domain pointed at the IP address of the PageGate server. Once you do that, anyone with the GetMail module will automatically send any messages to that email address to the pager/cel phone.

For example, let's say we had a domain called blah.com and a recipient called support. If the GetMail module is enabled for that recipient and I have the MX record for blah.com pointed at the PageGate server, if someone sends a message to support@blah.com, the pager/cel will automatically receive the message.

So for instance, an email would be sent from our monitoring device thru our email system to the PageGate server.

The PageGate server would then in turn know who to contact based on the email it received.

In this case, if we owned "ourdomain.com":
1) our monitoring software would send an email message to pagegate@ourdomain.com (we would create an email account called pagegate on our mail server)

2) PageGate would receive that message & then PageGate would then send out a "page" to a configured recipient?

OR is this not possible and we can only do something like:

PageGate must have it's own email domain, run as it's own email server, then our monitoring devices will have to send email from our office using our in house mail system to the PageGate server (which will have it's own separate email domain)?

And then whenever PageGate receives any messages at any address for it's domain, PageGate will contact a recipient?

Thanks, we are really eager to purchase and use PageGate if we can clear up exactly how it can be used to simply receive email messages from our monitoring systems and then contact recipients after the messages are received (forwarding the same message to the recipient that was sent to PageGate).

Precisely. In fact, you don't even really have to own the domain, there just has to be a valid email address called pagegate@yourdomain.com that you can configure one of PageGate's recipients or groups to check. Any time there are messages waiting in the mailbox, they will be read in to Pagegate and redirected to the recipient or group of recipients.

I look forward to continuing my PageGate testing / setup next week.

Hopefully it will satisfy my company's needs & we can implement a full solution in the near feature, thanks for your support.
