We are using a Zetron 2100 series paging terminal. In Page Gate's instructions, it says that the server computer should connect to the serial port of the paging terminal. Which serial port is this?

Your Zetron should have one or more serial ports on it. If they are all being take up by external modems, then you may need to add an expansion board for additional ports.
On some paging terminals, the ports are not a standard DB25 or DB9 connections. You may need to get a cable from Zetron to adapt an RJ45 or RJ11 type connector to a DB25 or DB9.
Your best bet may be to check out the manual, or contact your Zetron dealer. |

I have almost the exact setup here ...message me if you have any questions. I have an existing Page Gate server setup that dials into our Zetron with a modem initiating TAP and sends the pages out...but I just setup a new server with the serial direct connection and its so much better. Its takes about 10 seconds to get the pages vs. about a minute.

The PM is not working on this site, so I will post my questions with this reply. Now I have everything ready to go. My questions are many, so please forgive me if they seem basic.
1. Does the cable used to connect PageGate have to be a null modem cable or a regular serial cable?
2. We have PageGate Server on a Windows 2003 computer that will be connected to the Zetron. How does the PageGate Client fit in to all of this?
3. Do you still use ZBase to program subscriber information in your paging terminal?
4. What protocol do you use when connecting the PageGate server to your paging terminal?
5. What is the database section of PageGate server?
6. Are you the same person who emailed me at work?
That is all I have for now. Thanks for your help.

1. That entirely depends on the terminal you're going to be connecting it to. Some do, some don't.
2. The PageGate Client is the piece of software that can go on your network's workstations so that the workstations can view a list of recipients in your Recipient list and send them messages.
3. You would need to ask Zetron about that one since it's a Zetron terminal.
4. Well, it's Zetron's terminal, not our terminal. Our program, however, connects to most Zetron terminals through the TAP Protocol.
5. What or where?
6. I honestly don't know. |

Tech Support,
Thanks for answering my questions. However, I am sorry, but most of the questions I asked were meant for cbaker.

Ah, sorry about that. I wasn't sure who they were intended for. |

Well, since you are kind enough to answer, I will ask more questions. I am in no way a networking kind of guy. My networking skills stop at setting up commerical routers.
1. There is a web designer in my squadron who says he can design a web page to somehow "include" the PageGate client in it. I know I am not describing this the way he said it, but can you decrypt it enough to explain how that is possible?

Well, there are a few different ways it could be done, I suppose... but there's one very easy way. PageGate has a module (GetWeb) that allows you to host webpages that can submit pages directly to PageGate. One of the templates we offer with the GetWeb module is a rough duplication of the GUI Client called the GUI List template.
The second, and far more complex, way is that it's theoretically possible (I'm not a web programmer by any stretch of the imagination) to use ASP or C# to directly reference the database but that really is beyond what I know. |

We paid for PageGate. Does it include the GetWeb module and templates? If not, how do I get information on how to order them?

PageGate doesn't include the license for the GetWeb module by default but to double check, go to the Registration section of the PageGate Admin. If GetWeb isn't checked on the right hand side, you'll need to purchase the license for the GetWeb module.
Pricing and ordering information can be located here: http://www.notepage.net/upgrade-order-forms.htm |

Thank you much for the info. I have one last question. After connecting the PageGate server to the paging terminal, is it possible to send a test message? I am sure all of this is in the online manual, but the people I work for a the impatient types. They would probably explode if I told them I had to read the manual. Hmmmmm....

Sure, all you'd have to do is configure the Carrier, then configure a recipient you'd like to send the test message to. Then right click on the Recipient's name in the PageGate Admin, left click on Send Message, fill in the information, and click on Send. |

Good Morning, Afternoon, or Evening. Our license does include GetWeb. Where can I get the template for GetWeb?

1) In the PageGate Admin, go to the Interfaces - GetWeb - Settings.
2) Set the Webpages path to the appropriate path for your webserver. For example, in IIS, the path would be: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\
3) Set the CGI-Data path to the appropriate path for your webserver. For example, in IIS, the path would be: c:\inetpub\scripts\
4) Check Enabled.
5) Click Apply.
Once you do that, look in the c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ directory and you'll see a templates directory. That templates directory will have all of the available templates.
The final step is to configure a group to use through the website. Here's what you'll want to do:
1) In the PageGate Admin, right click on Groups and left click Add.
2) Name the group whatever you want but bear in mind that the website directory will reflect the name of the group. For example, if you name the group paging, you would direct your people to go to http://<serveraddress>/paging/
3) Click on Apply.
7) On the left hand side, you should now see the group you've just added. Left click on the + sign next to the group name.
8) Click on the WebPage sub-section of the recipient.
9) Set the template to: guilist.htm
10) Click on Apply.
If you look on your webserver, in the Web Pages path you set in Step #2 of the previous set of steps, you should now see a subdirectory that mirrors the name of the group. The index and default.htm files in that subdirectory have been automatically created based on the template you chose in step #9. Modify these files to look however you like. |
