|
Hello, Recently, our PageGate program (ver 4) goes out of service due to the PGSched.exe command becoming unresponsive at times (via the WinXP2sp task manager status). To clear this problem, I simply 'end the task' of the unresponsive PGSched.exe program and once the PGdialer1 responds, the PGSched.exe program restarts and all is well again, for awhile (usually every other day). No recent changes have been made to the PageGate server PC (WinXP SP2, P4, 1GB RAM) since this problem began 2 weeks ago. Our PageGate networked system has been in service for over a year now and no other problems have been in evidence since its initial installation. I have the PageGate program installed as an application (versus a NT Service), with one dialer assigned since all our pages are via the internet, SNPP protocol.
Any assistance is appreciated, Thanks!

There's a test I'd like you to try but you'll need to do it when the paging system can be down for about 20 minutes.
Try this:
1) Open the PageGate Admin.
2) Go to the Program - Settings section.
3) Change PageGate to run as an Application and click on Apply.
4) Check the Windows System Services to make sure that all of the PageGate system services have been removed.
I have a feeling that the Scheduler service or maybe one of the Dialer services will still be lingering around when it should have been removed.
If that's the case, open a command prompt and change directory to your PageGate directory. Once there, run this command:
<module name> uninstall
Example:
pgsched uninstall
pggmail uninstall
pggascii uninstall
Exit the command prompt and head back to the PageGate Admin. Switch it back to run as a System Service and you should be good to go. If, however, all of the services are removed like they should be, let us know.

Sorry about that... I completely overlooked the part of your post where you mentioned that PageGate was already running as an Application vs a Service. Strange.
How often do you have to reset the PGSched module?
Also, browse to the PageGate directory with the Windows Explorer and go into the properties of the Pagegate.exe file and let me know what file version it is.

As noted in my original post, I initially setup PageGate to run as an application, not as NT Service, so I cannot follow your directions. Please advise. Thanks!

Thanks, PageGate.exe file version is: 4.0.0.9 . I find I've averaged every other day when I need to end the PGSched task, so it can restart.

Just out of curiosity, why do you have it running as an application instead of a system service? I'm wondering if it will do the same thing if you had it running as a system service.

Good Morning, Good question, but I see no need to run it as a service based upon how our network is set up here (the pagegate server is always online). I can look into making a change if you have a reason doing so will correct this problem. I'm just curious why this problem arose after using this setup for over a year now?!? Thanks.

The thing is, there isn't a good reason I can think of that it would be doing this. The only thing that I can think of is maybe one of the Windows Updates modified a security setting that's causing the module to lock but even then, you'd think we'd have had a lot more inquiries about something like this.
I wanted you to try switching it to a system service because that's the main difference between this and most other PageGate installations.

I also have PG set to run as Application instead of service. We recently migrated over to 2K3 from XPSP2 and started experiencing the PGSched error 1000, "Faulting application PGSched.exe, version 4.0.0.9, faulting module msjet40.dll".....what's the fix?

If you would, browse into your PageGate program directory, locate the pagegate.exe file, and go into the properties of that file. Let me knowwhat it says under the Verison tab.

I just wanted ot make sure the error wasn't coming up due to a version mismatch issue. Try updating to the last build of PageGate version 4 (build 4.0.0.96):
1) Make a backup copy of your c:\program files\pagegate\pagegate.mdb file - this file contains all of your registration, carrier, recipient, mailbox, and connectors information.
2) Make a backup copy of the c:\program files\pagegate\mailboxes\ directory, if it exists.
3) Download the last build of PageGate Version 4 (build 4.0.0.96):
http://www.notepage.net/download/pgv4.0.9.exe
4) Shut PageGate down. Make sure that the system services are stopped, close the Admin, close the Monitor, and make sure nothing regarding PageGate is still running.
5) Uninstall PageGate. When prompted, select the full uninstall option.
6) Once the full uninstallation of Pagegate is complete, reboot the computer.
7) After the computer has been rebooted, manually browse to the c:\program files\ directory and if the PageGate directory still exists, delete it.
8) Use the pgv4.0.9.exe file you downloaded in step 3 to install the latest build of PageGate (select the PageGate Server option when prompted).
9) Now that we've got PageGate reinstalled, run the Admin.
10) Ignore the dialog that pops up, just click on Apply. It will tell you a new database has been created and PAgeGate must be restarted.
11) BEFORE you run the Admin again, take that copy of the pagegate.mdb file you made in step 1 and copy it back into the c:\program files\pagegate directory.
12) It'll ask if you want to overwrite the file, say yes.
13) If any of your recipients use mailboxes, restore the Mailboxes directory that you backed up in step 2.
14) Run the PageGate Admin again. Everything should be there (carriers, recipients, connector information, registration, all of it).
15) The last thing is to go to Program - Settings in the PageGate Admin and switch it to have PageGate run as a Windows NT service.
16) Once PageGate has been switched to run as a Service, left click once on the icon of the pager in your system tray and tell it to start.

If you would, please email all of PageGate's log files to support at notepage dot com. Also, please let us know the date and time of the last lockup so we can have a look at a few things.
