|
|
Hello,
I have setup a Pagegate system that is using SNPP to send the pages and it works great.
What I am not attempting is to setup a dial-up modem to dial out in the event of a failure of our Internet connection (this just happened to us).
In each recipients ID/PIN field I have the settings for the SNPP. I have a different PIN number that needs to also be in this field for the dial account to work. We are using IndianaPaging and their system accepts the PIN number to determine who to send the page to via TAP.
Can I have multipule entries in the ID/PIN field? I have tried a / between entries and it only seems to accept what is before the /.
Thoughts and/or suggestions?
Thanks,
Andy

Andy,
You can't have multiple entries in the ID/PIN field and each recipient can only have one ID/PIN. Basically, you'll need to create a 'backup' recipient for each of your existing recipients. Then go into the settings of your SNPP recipients and set the TAP recipients as the failover.
That way, if a message to an SNPP recipient fails, it will automatically try to send that message to the TAP recipient.

Ok - I can do that.
But - won't I have to have double the number of licenses for recipients in this case? I really don't have 50 recipients, just 25 recipients that have two seperate connections?

One last question.
If I setup recipients that do not have Get Mail/Web/GUI enabled (those are the options we have licensed) can I use them solely as backups to the normal recipients? That is to say that I have 25 licensed users but have 25 setup with GetMail/GetWeb and another 25 setup as backups with none of the GetMail/Web enabled.
I don't want to see the backup accounts in any list or have users contact the dial-up users directly. I only want them to exist as backups should the Internet link go out.
But, I also want to maintain correct licensing on the Pagegate system.
Would this be acceptable for the licensing? It appears that I can add the users but I have not tested the failover with the backup user(s) haveing none of the options enabled.
Thanks for the help,
Andy

PageGate is licensed per pager or wireless device that text messages are being sent to. A 50 Pager License enables PageGate to send text messages to the 25 SNPP recipients and failover to the 25 TAP recipients. This is regardless of which recipients are showing or not in the Interfaces.
Upgrade PageGate 25 to 50 Pager License for $50.00, plus a $5.00 License fee, total $55.00. Upgrade PageGate's Pager License at http://www.notepage.net/upgrades.htm[/list]

You are correct; for each backup TAP recipient do not enable the Get Mail/Web/GUI. The backup recipients will not be in any list, and users will not be able to directly contact the backup recipients using the modem. They will only be used as a Failover if the Internet connection goes down.
