No Carrier Message From ZETRON to PageGate

Hi Forum,
We have been using PageGate 4.0 successfully for about a year with a modem and TAP for paging to a third party paging service. Now we are attempting to connect to an in-house Zetron paging system using a modem and TAP. The Zetron connects and PageGate sends the message. The next log message received after 20 seconds is:

1/5/2006 8:06:17 AM No response from carrier. Disconnecting

It seems like the Zetron is hanging up before it sends an acknowledgement. PageGate then retries the message. In the mean time, Zetron sends out the page. The results are very intermittent, so PageGate may show three NO CARRIER message and then a succesful message or it may reach the retry limit and mark the message as bad. It may actually complete each page sent to the Zetron or it may not.

I think this is a Zetron issue, but I have not having any success pursuing this problem through my third party installer to Zetron.

Any help from this forum would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing I'd like to figure out is how you have the Dialer settings configured.

Go to the Admin and, once there, go to the Connectors - Dialer1 - Settings section. Let me know all of the settings you have there.

I'm a little confused. Is the PageGate system directly connected to the Zetron system via serial cable or is it something you have to dial into? I just want to be sure I understand before I tell you to do something only to have that something be wrong.

No Problem,
We are dialing in to the Zetron with a MultiTech MT1932ZDX modem.

We are not using a direct RS-232 connection.

One or two strange things I noticed in the log that you posted are that the initial dialer init string sets the baud rate to 1200 (+MS=1), but the carrier init string set it to 9600 baud (+MS=9).

Try resetting the init string in both the Carrier and Dialer to (auto). Alternatively, you could try setting the Carrier init string to the same thing that the Dialer init string reads or vice versa. I'd just like to make sure that it isn't a PageGate setting before we take the issue to Zetron.

Also, is the terminal accessible for an outside line? If so, I could run through some testing to find out what kind of a response I could get.

The first log was from a early failure. I have since changed the init string to the ones listed in my second post. I am changing the connection and recipent carriers back and forth from my working system and the new failing system, since I only have one dialer.

Init String - AT&F0Q0V1X4&D2&B1&K0&M0&N1

The line is available from an outside line and I will get you those details the first thing tomorrow morning. It is getting late in the day here and I want to leave PageGate to the working carrier for our nightly emergency pages.

I will post the outside line tomorrow and work with you then.

Is the Zetron terminal in house? If so, a more elegant solution would be to connect the PageGate PC directly to the Zetron terminal directly via serial cable (MUCH faster throughput)

Thanks for your idea, Aaron. PageGate is used as a secondary paging system for HP Openview when monitoring the network. A primary paging server is direct connected to the Zetron system for use by our call center and general users for all other paging throughout the hospital.
