hello

Just downloaded Notepager Pro. I opened the carrier wizard. The first step is to choose one of 7 protocols. I figure TAP is for me, so I click continue, then I get a message that says TAP is for analog lines, and NOT FOR DSL OR CABLE MODEMS. Okay... I am connecting to the 'net through a DSL line. So I go back and check all 6 of the other protocols but...

Not one of them says 'THIS is the one you want to use if you are using a DSL or Cable modem'

So I am stopped at the first step.

BTW, I went to the webpage that describes all the TAP numbers ( I don't even know what this means yet) and I checked to see if Hutchinson India is there - it is not. Only Hutchinson UK numbers are listed. Does this mean that I cannot use this s/w/ to send an sms to a Hutch mobile phone in India? This seems inpossible to me - they have huge penetration in the Indian market.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello

I found this page

http://www.notepager.com/nptechnical.htm

and read that DSL users can use NotePager.

However, I searched through the 3 lists (SMTP, SNPP, WCTP) and could not find any of the carriers used by my friends in India. There are Indian carriers there, however, none of the biggies are there. This seems very strange. What about BSNL, the country's biggest, or Hutchinson India mobile?

Looks like Notepager 32 would be okay for me - perhaps the configuration procedure is slightly less involved, which is what techno-dummies like me need

errr... no, maybe not. NotePager 32 is NOT good for DSl users like me. Another thing I noticed is that Notepager wants to send sms messages by sending them through my cell phone provider. However, this is not what I want - I want to be able to send sms messages from my computer straight to a mobile (cell) phone in India. I don't mind paying for the s/w which will allow me to do this but I do not want to pay for each sms if possible.

If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it a lot. I have been trying to figure out a way to send sms to my friends in India and I have tried a bunch of rather shady looking websites which I don't feel great about using. I am suprised at the difficulties I am having finding a way to effectively send sms to mobile phones in India, but I am not much of a techie so maybe I am missing something.

We are not familiar with Hutchinson's network in India, so you may have to contact one of your friends there to get more info.

The three protocols we support over the Internet are SNPP, WCTP, and SMTP. What you need to find out is which protocol Hutchinson India supports, and the settings needed to connect to their messaging server.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

If you do get the settings, please post them here, so others can use them too.

Thanks.
