I have read the postings concerning running NotePager Pro as a service. I have the same issues. I have Solarwinds NPM running on a 2003 server, and would like to be notified of interface changes via a numeric pager, so purchased Notepager Pro. Today, I logged into the server to check some settings, and when I looked at the Notepager, there were four messages pending. They started going out as soon as I started the app on the desktop. I do not normally run this server logged in, so the Notepager needs to run as a service.
Have there been any changes in this area that anyone is aware of since the last postings?

Thanks,
dave

Currently, the only way to get NotePager Pro to run as a system service is to create a Service using the Applications as Services Utility (SrvAny) tool from the Windows Resource Kit and a registered copy of NotePager Pro. This will not work with an evaluation copy.

Directions for installing and configuring the service are found in the Windows Resource Kit help, or in the Microsoft Knowledge base Q Article #137890.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q137890/

After the Service is configured, you will need to un-check "Allow Service to interact with Desktop" (found on the "Log On" tab in that service's "Properties") to prevent NotePager Pro from terminating when a user logs off.

Running NotePager Pro in this state will not allow you access to the NotePager Pro GUI. To access NotePager Pro, you will need to stop the service, select "Allow Service to interact with Desktop", and start the application from the Start Menu.

Other than that, you must run the program as an Application.

NotePage does not officially support running NotePager Pro as a Service, as the program is not designed to do so. PageGate is designed to run as a Service, and with the Commandline/Ascii Interface makes integration easy.

A registered copy of NotePager Pro does not need to run as a Service when used with SolarWinds.Net's Orion Network Performance Manager, which is able to execute NotePager Pro when needed. Integration information at http://www.notepage.net/solar-winds/integrationfaq.htm

The NotePager Pro 30-day trial splash screen interferes with the integration of SolarWinds' Orion. To suppress the splash screen add "/minimized" (without the quotations) to the commandline when you run npp.exe. The splash screen will reappear about 20 days into the trial. When the computer is on and the NotePager Pro evaluation is up and running there is no interference with SolarWinds' Orion.

Download a free evaluation of NotePager Pro and PageGate at http://www.notepage.net/software.htm
