Can you post the connection attempt from your Dialer log (PGDial1.log)?

We edited the above post or length and privacy issues.
What did you see on the device? According to the Dialer Log, the message is clear and the packet delivery was OK.
Also, you can remove the Dialer and Carrier Init strings. The dialer will always send the "AT+CMGF=1<CR>" command for GSM. You do not need Carrier and Dialer Init Strings.

Hi
I tried setting the init string to auto, but still the _ (under score character) comes out like a greek symbol.

Can you send a message (containing an underscore) to that display device using another protocol? What is the result?
An underscore is considered a printable character, and most devices will display them correctly.
We also suggest that you consult the documentation for the Siemens GSM modem and/or the display device. Do either of them mention whether an underscore is a "valid" character?
As far as the "Init Strings" are concerned, you can "Delete" them, so those fields are empty.

Hi
Yes I can send the undscore from other devices to my phone and it comes through fine, we have another seimens GSM modem on anther system running different software and this also sends out the underscore OK. The only differntiating factor seems to be the software

Thanks.
PageGate sends the characters that you see in the log.
11/02/2005 13:06:10 Sent:339:LloydsBackup:aspect_ov1 node up
The entry (above) from your Dialer Log is an example.
The Dialer sent "339:LloydsBackup:aspect_ov1 node up".
Also, does the Recipient ID require the country code?
"0044"?

Hi
Right, I have swapped the modem, including the sim and it still wont send the _ (underscore character). I have also removed all init strings. the log file works fine and the mdems send the character using other software. Any other suggestions?
Regards
Peter

What is the exact version of the dialer executable (PGDial1.exe)?

As a test, we captured a text file containing all of the data that passed between the dialer executable (v 4.00.0091) and a GSM "modem".
The capture file's data was viewed in a hex editor and definitely contains underscores (hex value "5F" / ascii decimal value "095").
What happens if you send a message manually from Admin?
Does the underscore come through?
Could you look for a file named "tmp347.698" on your system? It may be in the "good" sub-directory of the GetAscii polling directory. If you find that file, please email it to forumsupport@notepage.com .
Also, which OS are you using?
