I need to move pagegate server to another machine.
What files do I need to copy in order to transfer all of my settings.
Also, what is the easiest way to deploy the settings changes to the clients so they will connect to the new server?
Thanks

Below are the basic steps you should follow to move PageGate to a new machine.
1.) Make several back-up copies of the existing PageGate database file. This is named "pagegate.mdb" and is located (by default) in the PageGate installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\PageGate)
2.) Install PageGate Server version 4.0 on the new machine.
3.) Place a copy of the PageGate database file (named "pagegate.mdb") into the PageGate Installation directory (default = C:\Program Files\PageGate)
4.) Start PageGate Admin.
5.) Verify/Select the correct paths and Modules/Interfaces to run on the PageGate Server
6.) Apply the settings.
7.) Open PageGate Admin and verify that the correct database is being read.
8.) Start PageGate Server ('Start' - 'Programs' - 'PageGate' - "PageGate Server" "
9.) If you want PageGate to run as a service, change the "run style". This is done in PageGate Admin by selecting
"Program" - "Settings" - "Run PageGate as:" - "Windows NT Service".
You may need to adjust Dialer "Serial Ports" and Dialer / Carrier "Init Strings" to accommodate for any changes in modem hardware. Also you should verify specific Interface settings. Also, network "shares" or "mapped drives" may need to be updated/created if PageGate GUI Clients are utilized.

Ok. All looks well in the database. I also shared the folder. When I try to connect a client, it gives me an error- "Access Denied - Unable to access the paging server's database. This is usually caused by insufficient rights to the file."
I gave all domain users full access to the entire share, including child objects, but it still gives this message. What did I miss ?

What is the "domain users" permissions on that directory?

"domain users" has "Full access" on the share.

Here is a quick test to see if the problem is with our rights at the operating system level:
From a workstation you are having trouble with, logged in as the normal user for that workstation, browse out to the location of the PageGate database on the server (pagegate.mdb). Right-click on the database file and choose 'Copy'. Right-click on a blank area in the same folder and choose 'Paste'. This should create a file named 'Copy of pagegate.mdb'. If it doesn't work then you have some sort of network permissions problem and will probably have to talk to your network administrator about it.

Ok. It was a share permissions issue.
Now I've got it running. The next thing I need to do is change all of my clients to look to the new server. Any ideas for an easy way to remotely make these changes ?

If you can push registry settings to the workstations, then the database location is stored here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NotePagerNet\DB_Dir

[quote]I have a situation where someone else installed PageGate 4.0 on the new XP machine then copied / pasted the files (entire directories, or so I'm told) from the old PC to this one. After about 5 days of problems where Pagegate quit accepting messages 3 - 4 times a day, I pulled the "new" pc and put the old one back in place. No problem except this pc has to be turned in (lease) soon.
PageGates settings all match on the old and new pc.
If I back-up the databases, etc. then re-install over the top of everything - will PageGate retain the settings and database?
