I have a dynalink 1456VQE external modem and the noise is driving me crazy. I have tried all the usual fixes such as disabling the speaker, setting the "Extra Settings" to "M0" and lowering the volume to "Off". While these work to silence the modem for other dial up applications it doesn't seem to work with notepager pro. I have tried inserting an AT command into the Init string but I may be doing it wrong.
The tape over the top of the sounder has helped substantially but I would like to silence it completely. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Which initialization string(s) are you using?

According to the manufacturer's web site (hyperlink below), inserting the "M0" (M Zero) should turn off the modem's speaker.

AT&FQ0V1X4&D2. Does it make a difference where in the string I put the addition?

Try inserting the command in the Init String at the end

"AT&FQ0V1X4&D2M0"

or

"AT&FQ0V1X4&D2&M0"

Or you can try connecting to the modem manually using Hyperterminal, then send the command by typing "ATM0" or "AT&M0" (without the quotations).

Success!! I must have been entering it incorrectly in the init string. Thanks very much for your help.
