| I currently run PageGate ver.6 on an old server. We just bought the upgrade to ver. 9. We don't want to keep the server running on the old server and want to move to a newer server probably virtual. My question is how do I gut the new server running with the current configuration and database. Do I migrate the old server to the new location and then apply the upgrade? Do I install a new server and import data from old server. I bought the upgrade and have the reg key for that. thanks in advance for any assistance.

The best thing to do would be to download and install PGv9 on the new server, then transfer a copy of the PGv6 server's data over and convert it.
Here's what you'll want to do:
1) On the new server, use these steps to install PGv9:

2) After the installation, right click on the shortcut for PageGate Admin and select 'Run as Administrator'
3) Specify where you want the database, log and archive directories to be or you can leave them at their default locations.
3a) When you click Apply, if any of the specified directories don't exist, it will ask if you want to create them which, of course, you do.
3b) It should then say a new database has been created and PageGate must be restarted. Click OK.
4) On the old PGv6 system, grab a copy of the database (pagegate.mdb). The default location is c:\PageGateData\Database\ but if you open the PGv6 Admin and go to Program - Settings, it will display the file's location in the "Database Directory" field.
5) Paste the PGv6 database in to the PGv9 database folder, overwriting the existing file.
6) Run the PGv9 Admin.
7) Tell it yes, you do want to upgrade the database.
8) Enter your PGv9 registration key when prompted.
9) Use these steps to switch PGv9 to run as a Windows Service:

10) Shut the PGv6 server down.

Thank you. That is what I had figured was the way to accomplish it. Will the old client work with the upgraded server? Will it prompt to upgrade when it tries to connect or am I going to have to upgrade all the users before they can get back to sending pages?

The PGv6 client won't be able to reference the PGv9 server's database and will provide an error indicating that the database is in an unrecognized format.
You'll want to upgrade all users before they can get back to sending pages.
