What factors can effect the speed at which PageGate sends out a message. We connect via a cable modem, and use SNPP, WCTP and email (via a relay server).

We send to about 300 people at a time, and it takes about 5 to 7 minutes to get a message out to everyone. (The time begins when GetMail grabs the email from our POP3 server.)

I'm I just being greedy, or is there a way to speed up the outbound messages?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Many of our Municipal public safety clients have the same questions. Throughput (speed) is directly affected by a couple of major things.
1) How many dialers are you using. Increasing the number of dialers in use will drastically reduce throughput (Pagegate comes with only 1 dialer but is capable of driving 16)
2) What protocols are you using to communicate? WHile TAP is extremely reliable, it takes a minimum of 6 seconds(on a good day) to initiate 1 session (generally, 3 second to set up the call, microsecond to end the message, and 3 seconds to tear down the call). WCTP and SNPP are MUCH faster and equally as reliable, but not all carriers accept it. SMTP is marginally faster than TAP but as reliable (and traceable) as dropping a letter in a mailbox.
3) WHat type of internet connection does Pagegate use? Obviously, a dedicated T-1 or Cable connection will allow you to pump more messages in a given period of time than a dial up.

Hope this helps!

You may want to consider purchasing an extra dialer (or two).

Once you configure the extra dialers, decrease the "Dial Threshold" setting (default is '20') found in PageGate Admin under 'Connectors' - 'Global' - 'Settings'.

Reducing that number will allow the extra dialers to start working on messages more quickly.
