I have setup notepager pro to send text messages using the SMTP, the problem I am is that the software is not picking up the mailserver; here is the problem in the log:
08/20/2004 9:19:28 AM Start connection to carrier: N_4
08/20/2004 9:19:28 AM Sending via SMTP
08/20/2004 9:19:28 AM ------------------------------------------------
08/20/2004 9:19:28 AM Working on message to: Ann (PIO)_Cell from: PORTS DISPATCH
08/20/2004 9:19:28 AM Formatting message
08/20/2004 9:19:28 AM Message contained in single packet
08/20/2004 9:19:28 AM Looking up mailserver for
08/20/2004 9:19:39 AM Trying host:
08/20/2004 9:19:39 AM Program Halted. Error# 10049 Address is not available from the local machine in Procedure: SendSMTP

As you can see the "Looking up mailserver for" line does not have the stored information regard in the SMTP protocol

What I have found is when I go to the carriers-edit-"the carrier"-I switch to "Deliver through local email server then hit apply.
Notepager will then send out one message then the others will be bad, I then switch back to "deliver directly to destination server" and the remaining messages will process, i then need to requeue the bad messages and they are successfully sent. here is an example of the log:
08/20/2004 9:19:59 AM Start connection to carrier: N_4
08/20/2004 9:19:59 AM Sending via SMTP
08/20/2004 9:19:59 AM ------------------------------------------------

It looks like you may have a setting wrong for the carrier or recipient. Can you please post the settings from your carrier's screen and from your recipient's screen.

X out a few characters in the recipient's address, so it won't be posted here, but leave most the recipient's address intact so we can at least see the general format of it.

Okay here it is

Carrier
Local Domain- Portsmouthva.gov
The radio button "Deliver directly to to destination server" is checked
DNS Server 1 10.X.X.X
DNS Server 2 0.0.0.0

Recipients
XXXXX55720@pcs.ntelos.com

I want to add that the system works well once I make the changes I described.

It appears that the problem is with the pcs.ntelos.com domain. pcs.ntelos.com has no MX records in their DNS record. Therefore NotePager Pro can't properly resolve their mailserver's address. You should probably contact your carrier and have them fix their DNS records.
