Hi,

We use a Call Management package called nCall. We have been able to for the most part, setup PageGate to work with nCall to send SMS's and now we'd like to sort out the sending of faxes.

We currently use an external email-2-fax service provider that requires the fax number to be in the format of [faxnumber].efax@servicename.com.au. Now that we have PageGate, we'd like to bring all of the faxing internal to help reduce our costs.

we can't use client-name@ourpagegate.server to send faxes, as fax field in nCall is numeric only (same as mobile number). Mobile numbers can be sent using the Ad-Hoc feature of PageGate, but can we use Ad-Hoc in a similar way to send faxes?

Yes- you will need to set up an AD-HOC recipient to handle the requests

To add to what OzCom posted, you can rather easily send faxes from PageGate so long as you have a modem installed on the server and an extra connector in PageGate so PageGate can dial out to the receiving fax machines. Here's how to do it:

1) Open the PG Admin.

2) Go to Connectors - Connector 2 (or 3 or 4 or whatever your first available connector is) - Settings.

3) Set the "Serial Port" field to match the COM port of the dial-up modem.

4) Click on Apply.

5) Right click on the Carriers section, left click on Add.

6) Name the Carrier: Faxing or Faxes or something straightforward.

7) Set the Max Chars to whatever the maximum number of characters you would like to be able to send.

8) Click on Apply.

9) Right click on Recipients, left click on Add.

10) Name the Recipient something straightforward like ahfaxing or adhocfaxing or something like that.

11) Set the Type to Adhoc and set the Carrier to the faxing carrier you created in step 6.

12) Click on Apply.

The final step is to apply a template to the faxing so everything doesn't come through as a run-on block of text. A sample fax template can be downloaded here:

http://www.notepage.net/support/FAX.mtp

Open that up in NotePad and you can modify it to look however you like. Once you have it modified to your specification, rename the file to <recipient>.mtp

For example, if you named your recipient adhocfaxing, you would need to name the file adhocfaxing.mtp

After renaming the file, copy it in to the PageGate program directory, then stop and start the PageGate services.

Thanks OzCom & Support,

Tested successfully with Fax header showing the to field as "ad-hoc_fax". Not sure how our clients will like being called ad-hoc_fax, will see if I can find away to create an ad-hoc recipient for each client with their name showing on the fax header.

will post the results of testing

Well, the names are arbitrary. You can name them whatever you like, those were just examples I have. You could just easily name them a real name. Doesn't matter.

Will you please send the correct link to the sample FAX.mtp. The link in this post is dead.

Hm... I didn't realize that file had been removed from the support section. I've replaced it and that should be a valid link again.

We are trying to eliminate our use of the VsiFax product and move our Faxing to Pagegate along with our existing paging. We are generating our Pager messages from a Computer Aided Dispatching system and sending the message via the GetASCI function in PageGate and this works perfectly.
Using VsiFax we generate a dispatch "run ticket" (fax document) that is placed in the polling directory where Vsi Fax reads a header in the document that contains the FAX number to call.
My question is, is there a way to create a document to be faxed that will be placed into the GetAsci directory that will contain the FAX number to be used? If this is possible, will you please send me the expected format along with the format of the file name, including the file extension.

It's certainly possible to do that, yes. If you would, please email me an example of the file output that we need the GetAscii module to read in to support at notepage dot com
