Has anyone had any luck setting up an iPhone 4 as a GSM modem to send SMS texts? I've been working with support, but the piece I'm missing is what I need from a software standpoint to allow PageGate to send through the phone.

The iPhone will not accept AT commands - it will not work. You CAN, however, use your iPhone as a WiFi HotSpot and give the machine running PageGate internet connectivity. This will allow you to use SNPP, WCTP, and SMTP. Your other alternative is to purchase an industrial external cellular modem. We have installed hundreds of these devices with PageGate to send/receive true MO/MT (Mobile Originated / Mobile Terminated) SMS messages_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

We sell the MultiTech line. Once installed, simply insert a valid SIM card in the device, and PageGate uses it for messaging_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

OzCom, I thought (at least according to Apple's documentation and various modding forums) that the iPhone does support the AT command set? |

My understanding is that the AT command set support is for apps - not for consumer access. If you have an Apple Developer account and DevKit - you can access that subset for the purpose of app creation/modification. The only other way I know of is to JailBreak the device - BUT - that will void all warranties_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

Ah, that's what I was missing. I didn't realize you'd have to jailbreak the phone to use the commands. |
