Just to clarify, do you mean SMPP or SNPP?

Unfortunately, no, Pagegate doesn't currently support the SMPP protocol. It can integrate with Orion and it can send messages to your cel phones or pages with the SNPP, SMTP, WCTP, TAP or GSM-AT protocols, though.

Ok,,,reason for asking is that my service provider only supports SMPP....at present we can receive alerts via emails,,,

Can you explain how the getascii and get mail work??? does it need a seperate mobile phone connected to the solarwinds & pagegate server to be able to send sms.????

Are you sending to pagers or cel phones? Also, PageGate can send alerts via SMTP/Email.

As for how GetAscii works, GetAscii can monitor a directory or series of directories on either the local server or across the network for text file output. It will then read in any files passed and send an SMS based on them. GetAscii also provides a command line executable for other applications to pass messages to.

GetMail allows PageGate to accept email incoming and translate that in to outbound messages. This can be done in a variety of ways but the two primary methods are as follows:

1) If you have an existing mail server, you can create a subdomain on the server and redirect its MX record to the PageGate Server. For example, let's say you have a mail server that manages whatever.com. You can create a sub-domain of paging.whatever.com and redirect it to the PageGate Server. At that point, all recipients and groups become valid email addresses on the sub-domain. So, you could create a group within the program called Alerts and then you would be able to send an email to alerts@paging.whatever.com and PageGate would read it in and send a message to every member of the alerts group.

2) PageGate can monitor a mailbox or series of mailboxes for email via POP. So, you could create a series of email addresses and tie them to a recipient or group in the program.

As for whether you need a separate mobile phone for messaging, that is always an option. If you do have an AT Command capable device, PageGate can use it to broadcast direct SMS.

You can connect a separate mobile phone or cellular modem to your solarwinds & pagegate server to send sms alerts. The separate mobile phone or cellular modem needs to support the GSM AT Commands. Connect the phone or modem using a USB or serial cable.

Use PageGate's Commandline/ASCII Interface to integrate PageGate software with SolarWinds Orion NPM.
