I followed instructions found elsewhere in this forum to integrate my PageGate installation to store its data in SQL 2008 R2. I created the database made the changes to the database and linked the tables in MS Access and can view the data in the tables from within Access. However, when I try to state PageGate Admin I get the 3151 database error and then another message windows saying that the ODBC connection failed. I have recreated the ODBC many times and it always tests fine. I know I am missing something very simple but I cannot figure out what it may be. Please help.

When I posted my problem I was running the SQL server and the pagegate server on the same machine, 2008 windows server. Of course, I did not have Access installed on this machine so when it came time to link the tables to the SQL server I had to do this from another machine. Just as a test I installed PageGate on the same XP machine that Access is installed on and the database works like a charm. Now, of course, I cannot leave it this way so does anyone have any idea why this will not work when the PageGate server resides on the SQL machine? I built the ODBC on the SQL machine but it still does not work. Ideas?

The 3151 error is definitely a connection error. Basically, something (and I'm willing to bet it's the User Accounts Control on Server 2008) is getting between PageGate and the SQL database. When you installed PageGate, did you use the http://www.notepage.net/videos/pagegate-vista-installation.htm steps so that PageGate was authorized with the UAC on your Server 2008 system? |

Hmmm.... I did not use that installation method. Is this something that I should try first and can I just install over the top of the installation that is there using this method?

I'd recommend uninstalling first, then going through those steps to reinstall. Let's see if that makes a difference. |

No joy. I reinstalled using the prescribed method on the website which was to run as administrator. Everything installs fine and PageGate Admin will attempt to start but it will not open the directory. I still receive the 3151 error and then another screen that says:
Excessive database errors: 3151 ODBC--connection to 'pagegate' filed. In Procedure: main Program Halted
I will agree it almost certainly has to be a permissions issue but at this point I have no idea where.

Ok Ok Ok.... I was running PageGate Admin from the machine that houses PageGate and SQL server, I just tried running Admin from another machine and setting the permissions on the folders so that I could access and PageGate Admin starts and runs and I can see the database. What is causing it to not run on the server??????????

Well I was too quick. PageGate Admin will run from another machine and I can access and modify the database but the PageGate server will not start on the server machine.

When you installed on the server - were you logged in as THE WINDOWS SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR, or a USER with ADMIN rights? There are significant differences_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

I was logged in as a user with admin rights. Do I need to be the network administrator or the local administrator of the machine I am logged into?

Are you trying to run the PageGate Server processes as an Application or Windows Service? |

I would rather run as a service.

Right, it's the preferred method of running PageGate but how do you currently have the run style set?
The reason I ask is that if you're running PageGate as a Windows service, you'll need to go in to the properties of the PageGate services in the Services list and assign them a specific account name and password that has administrative privileges to the database and database folder. By default, Services use the default system account in Windows which has restricted rights in secure environments, hence the 3151 errors. |

In trying to get this thing to function I was running as an app. I had planned on doing exactly that with the user to start the service. I had this set up before and working before trying to link this database to SQL. So these errors that I am receiving now were coming from running as an app.

When running the PageGate Server from the start menu, are you using the Right Click - Run As Administrator option? If not, try that and let us know if the error still shows up. |
