|
|
We have WhatsUp gold 15.0 running on a VM running windows server 2008 sp2. It is in our basement and we are trying to use a multitech GSM modem to send sms messages to our cell phones. Because of signal issues in the basement I have installed PageGate on a win7 box up here on our floor and the GSM modem is connected to it. Can someone explain to me how I will get the 2 boxes (pagegate and whatsup gold) talking?

I'm not immediately familiar with the way What's Up Gold's interface works or how their program is laid out, so there is some information we'll need to find out before i can tell you how to integrate it with PageGate. When an alert is generated in/from What's Up Gold, do you know if it has the ability to pass parameters to a command line executable or write text files to a directory? |

Okay, what you should be able to do is this:
1) On the What's Up Gold system, configure it to drop a text file in a directory.
2) Share that directory on the network and be sure to assign the security/sharing permissions so that an an account name and password we can give to PageGate will have complete administrative privileges.
3) Go to the PageGate Server.
4) Create a new folder called: c:\pagegatedata\ascii\
5) Open the PageGate Admin.
6) Go to the Interfaces - GetAscii - Settings.
7) Set the Polling Directory to c:\pagegatedata\ascii\
8) Put a check in Enabled and click on Apply.
9) When asked if you want this to be enabled for all existing groups and recipients, say yes.
10) Go to Interfaces - GetAscii - Settings - Advanced Polling - Files.
11) Click on Add.
12) Leave the Recipient and From fields as they are.
13) In the Files section, enter the extension of the files that What's Up Gold outputs. For example, if they output txt files, enter *.txt or if they use wba files, enter *.wba
14) Set the path to the UNC path (\\servername\directory) to the shared output folder on the What's Up Gold system.
15) Set the File type to: Custom
16) Click on Apply.
Now, there are some additional settings that need to be set before the data can be properly processed but I need you to email an example of their output file to support at notepage dot com so I can go through their format and tell you what those Advanced Polling options should be set to. |

Okay, do you want all of the alerts to always go to the same person or group of people? Also, do you want the entire text of what you've shown to be the message or do you only want specific bits parsed out? |

we have different groups of people that need to know about different devices and we would want the name of the device as well as its status (up/down) to be the only things in the message.
Here is one that shows what the name shows up like when the device is down.

Okay, with that in mind, we need to figure out what in the alert can tell PageGate who to send it to. So, in the above quoted alert, is there anything there to indicate who the message needs to go to? |

Have you already configured your carriers, recipients and groups in PageGate? |
