I am having periodic problems with PageGate, where the services are shutting down, requiring a manual intervention of either rebooting the server, or starting the services.

Here is the error that appears when the problem appears:

"Unable to synchronize time with the scheduler. Using local time"

The server is Windows 2008 Server, 32-bit with 4 GB of RAM and plenty of "swap" space, with all of the latest Service Packs and Windows Updates. The Clients are all Windows XP-Pro, SP3 with all of the latest updates.

The Server was installed this past summer, and fully implemented in August. I don't remember the first time this appeared, but not immediately. We have since had several more incidents, with two in the last week alone.

Where do I start? is the "synchronization" problem with the 2008 Server and PageGate, or the Internet Time Servers, or the XP Workstation?

Thank you!

Well, PageGate runs a midnight cleanup routine that shuts the program down for a few seconds so we can do some database checking. It's supposed to bring the services back up after it finishes, though. What build number of PageGate are you using? To find out, browse into the PageGate program directory on your hard drive, go into the properties of the pagegate.exe file, then go under the version tab.

Dear Tech Support,

The times that the service fails does not, at this point, appear to be consistent with midnight, but I cannot be postive at this point.

In answer to your question, 5.0.0.92 is both the "file version" and the "product version."

Could the problem be related to Windows 2008?

Thank you!

Potentially, though I haven't had other clients run into this tsame trouble on that operating system. If you would, please email the system and application event logs from Windows as well as all of the PageGate logs to support at notepage dot com

That way I can crossreference what happened to see if there's an answer.

I see nothing here, but certainly will do.

One other question comes to mind.

What should the "login" for the PageGate Servicesbe? Should the user be "Administrator" for the Domain?

Thanks!

Well, the login for the services depends on how you're running the program and whether you have any data stored on another machine. For example, if you have the Getascii module running and the polling directory for that module is set to a different computer, you should run the PageGate Services as the Administrator. However, if everything's hosted locally, you can just run it as the built in system account, provided that the default system account hasn't been disabled, limited, or removed.

I am attaching log files.

In looking at the PageGate Services "login" information, there is a difference, all of which is "default" from the original installation.

PageGate Connector1 is "DOMAINNAME"\administrator
PageGate Scheduler is "DOMAINNAME"\administrator
PageGate is .\administrator

Where "DOMAINNAME" is the actual Domain Name of the network that this 2008 Server services in Active Directory.

This just does not look right to me. It seems to me that all of the services should be the same, and that the first two listed above are most likely correct. Please advise.

Attachments to follow.

Thank you!

I don't really see an issue with the authentication you're currently using. Right now, you have the PageGate Service using the local system's administrator credentials, which is fine since the main PageGate service never accesses anything other than the local system.

The Scheduler and Connector Services may access cross-network data, depending on how you have the program configured, so you have them set to use the network authentication.

It shouldn't really matter, though, since you're on a Domain. You could just as easily switch the main PageGate service to use the Domain credentials and it should function.

OK, will do. Let me know if you find anything of interest in the Log files I sent you.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the error message referencing TIME being out of sync is caused by the PageGate service having already stopped.

Thank you!

Is the entire package running on a single machine or are there files and modules spread over the network?

The entire package is installed at the Server, so this is a Client / Server implementation.'

Steve - did you get my email from earlier today? I'd like to have a look at the PageGate log files, which should be located in c:\pagegatedata\logs\

Log files sent multiple times and to multiple email addresses.

Have you received them? Do you need more?

Thank you for your help.
