Apologies if this has been covered...I couldn't find it on the board. At my employer, employees are issued pagers through US Mobility. NotePager Pro works great in sending messages to these pagers. However, I am interested in including my personal cell phone in the notification list and am at a complete loss of how to set it up. My carrier is ATT and any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried SMTP, SNPP, TAP, WCTP (seemingly everything) and nothing is working.

Any help would be awesome.
Thanks.

Do you want to deliver the messages to AT&T by modem or internet?

Doesn't matter to me. Whicher I can get to work with my work's computer/internet. The work computer is networked, hi speed. Don't know much more than that...sorry. I'll try to answer any further questions on it if I can.

Thanks!

Does the computer have a modem in it? If you're not sure, go into the Control Panel in Windows, then go into the Phone and Modems icon. Then go under the Modems tab and let me know if anything is listed there.

When I click on that option, it brings up a connection wizard...so I'm guessing not.

Okay, before we go through the configuration, run this connection test for me. It'll let me know how the configuration needs to be set up:

1) In Windows, go to Start - Run.

2) In the Run line, type: command

3) Click on OK.

4) In the command prompt, type the following and hit enter:

telnet atlsmtp.cingularme.net 25

Let me know what happens when you do that.

Sorry for the delay...back at work now. Here's what I got...

"Connecting To atlsmtp.cingularme.net...Could not open connection to the hose, on port 25: Connect failed"

Hope this isn't a death knell...

Nope, not a death knell, it just means that we need to configure the program a different way. I need you to contact your ISP's tech support or your network administrator and ask them the following questions:

1) What SMTP server can I use?

2) Does it require authentication?

2a) If it does, SPECIFICALLY what username/password is required to authenticate?

Once you get that information, email me at support at notepage dot com

Ok. Thanks for the advice. Seeing the local time as being after 4pm central, probably won't have any luck today. Will check back with them on Monday. Thanks for all the help.

So far I've been able to get Verizon to work with TAP, but for AT&T and T-Mobile I can't get anything but SMTP to work.

I've got ATTWS.com to respond to WCTP, but I get an "invalid response from host" error msg, and the msg doesn't get through (see the log, below).

I assume the dialer problem noted above has been corrected in Notepager Pro since I have the newest version; right? Or do I need to download a patch?

As for T-Mobile, I don't see any alternative to SMTP. Right?

Hal

TMobile does not support TAP

ATT Supports TAP, SNPP, and WCTP - but ONLY if the recipient device has been subscribed to "Enterprise Paging" - an option available for about $10.00 per phone per month

ALL cellular carriers, however, support SMS. This is supported by Notepager Pro and PageGate as "GSM-AT" and requires that a cellular modem be connected to the PC. THe software will use that cellular device to generate and send cell to cell SMS messages

Then it looks like I'm stuck with SMTP delivery for T-Mobile and AT&T, unless I want to pay at least $50/month more for a cellular modem. That's obviously not much for a business that needs such service; in my case, it isn't justified.

Thanks for your prompt, informed reply! It's rather annoying to tinker with this stuff, given the cryptic error messages and dearth of reliable information (e.g., do checksum errors mean a bad modem initialization string? Sometimes, but that's also what happens when AT&T won't talk with people who aren't registered). At least now I won't waste more time trying to configure things that won't work.
