On occassion, NPP stops talking to our USRobotics USB 56K Faxmodem (model 5633B) after attempting to reset the modem three times. Then the message is marked as bad. Any carrier that we have setup with TAP will fail until we manually query the modem from the properties in the control panel. Once the query goes through, if we send a test page, it is successful. Over the past two weeks, it has become more frequent. I don't know if it is the modem or application. Has anyone else seen this issue?

If I had to guess, I'd say that you didn't use the modem for a fair stretch of time just before the problem occurred. I think what you're running into is a Windows issue. Which is to say, the device is idle for X amount of time, so Windows powers it off or closes the port, or puts it into Standby mode (the modem itself). Since all our program does is go to a COM port and put forth an AT request, it isn't enough to wake the modem up... hence, why you have to manually query the modem.
Check the modem's options in your hardware list and check your power saving options. |

That's a good thought. Makes sense. I went into the device manager and checked the power management of the USB Root Hub that the modem is attached to and unchecked the box that states Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. I will see if this helps. The modem itself does not appear to have any power management settings that I could find.
