Hi all,
I have been reading your forum, searching the net, calling Bell Mobility Canada, scratching my head, etc. and I am unable to find any valid configuration to send text message to Bell Canada cell phones. The only thing I found that can give me some information is this topic: http://www.notepage.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=356&highlight=bell
And it seems like that no one found the answer...
But how is it possible that we cannot find anything about this. Here is a website from Bell to send text message to cell phones: http://www.txt.bell.ca/bell/en/
Is there anyone here that is able to send text message to Bell Canada cell phones with NotePage? If yes, what protocol do you use? SNPP/SMPP/WCTP?
Do you guys are able to send to Telus and Rodgers also?

And one another question. Is SNPP can be used to send message to cell phones also? reading this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Network_Paging_Protocol I thought it was only for Pagers.
But as I read more on the net... it seems like we can use SNPP to send message to Cell phones? But only some companies support it.

Well, as far as I'm aware, the only way to message Bell cel phones (aside from with another cel phone or a cellular modem) is to email them. You should be able to use SMTP to send a message to 10digitcel@txt.bell.ca
SMTP should also work to Telus but if the Rogers phone needs to have SMTP specifically enabled to receive the messages. Telus and Rogers also support TAP. |

IF a cel phone company supports the TAP protocol, yes. I don't know of any Canadian carriers that do but Alltel, Sprint, and Nextel do for free. AT&T/Cingular also supports it but it's a paid service under their Enterprise Paging Network plan(s). |

If I'm right, TAP protocol use a modem?
Our goal here is to remove any modem we have and only use Internet (or email)

Email to cell phones is NOWHERE NEAR as reliable as TAP (or SNPP or WCTP). TAP< SNPP< and WCTP create a temporary DIRECT connection to the wireless carrier's system for the duration of the transmission. SMTP (email) has no such control (ever wondered why an email is delayed hours or even days sometimes? SMTP to cell phones suffer the same occasional glitches)_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

The problem OzCom is that BELL Canada is unable to provide me any usable SNPP or WCTP configuration to send message text to cell phones.
The only option I have is 10digitnumb@txt.bell.ca ....
So what can I do....
and TAP is not an option anymore for my company as we will remove our Modems Pool...

| Your only option is SMTP to Bell. It's the only 'external' protocol they offer anymore. |

| Does it actually depend on the age of the cell phone? We have some people with some early days cell phones and sometimes they have some problems with receiving messages. Thanks in advance for the information.

| It's possible but it's not anything I'm aware of, if the age of the phone changes the host(s) that the phone will be on. Regardless, using a cellular modem is still the best way to go. |
