PageGate Switching Run Styles Transcript for Video:
Welcome to the tutorial on how to switch PageGate's Run Style.

In this tutorial, we'll be going over how to change PageGate's run style from Application to Windows Service and from Windows Service to Application.

Before we proceed, the following changes can only be made on the PageGate Admin ON the server. These changes cannot be made from any workstation admin consoles.

The first step is to run the PageGate Admin, so go to your start menu, go to Programs, find the PageGate program group, and left click on PageGate Admin.

Once in the admin, left click on the + next to Program.

In the Program section, left click on Settings.

By default, PageGate runs as an application.

To change the program to run as a Windows Service, move the dot down to Windows Service and click on Apply.

When you do, the program will prompt you for credentials.

Before we proceed, PageGate is not asking for credentials to any internal security portion of the program. In order for PageGate to create the system services, it needs to access a portion of the Windows Registry that may be protected.

On most systems, you can use the built in system account for Windows, which means you can leave the username and password fields blank and left click on Apply.

If, however, you are on a domain, you may need to specify an administrative username and password here.

After clicking on apply, you should see a prompt that tells you that it is verifying the account information, Updating Services, then Switching Run styles.

After the Switching Run Style goes away, if you look next to the clock in Windows, you should see an icon of a pager.

Left click on that icon and it will bring up four options, the first of which is Start and the last of which is Stop.

Left click on Start.

Since you're running PageGate as a Windows Service now,t hat's the last time you have to do that. From now on, the program will automatically start itself when the computer is powered on.

To switch PageGate's run style back to an application, go back into the Admin, then go back to the Program - Settings section.

Under the Run PageGate As section, move the dot to Application and click on Apply.

When it has finished switching the run style, you should see the icon of the pager disappear from the system tray.

When running PageGate as an application, you'll need to manually start the PageGate Server each time you want it to run by going to your start menu, go to programs, find the PageGate program group, and left click on PageGate Server.

That should put the icon back in your system tray, indicating that the PageGate Server is running.

This concludes the tutorial on how to switch the run style of the PageGate Server.
