When WebGate is run for the first time, you will be required to enter some initial setup information. This information can be modified later by using WebGate's Administration program (WG Admin). To start WebGate, choose 'WebGate Server' from your Windows start menu. The default location would be 'Start' > 'Programs' > 'WebGate' > 'WebGate Server'. The first window you will see is the 'WebGate Setup' window. Here you need to make some choices about where to keep some of WebGate's files, and which of WebGate's modules you will be using on this computer.
Here are the settings:
Program directory - This tells WebGate where its program files reside on the local computer. In most cases this would be where WebGate was installed (default: C:\Program Files\WebGate\).
Database Directory - This is where WebGate will keep its database. If you are upgrading from a previous version of WebGate, be sure to enter the same database location as the prior version. The database will be automatically upgraded. If you plan to run some of WebGate's modules on another computer, or to administer WebGate from another computer, you should put WebGate's database in a shared network folder. IMPORTANT: If you specify a shared network folder, the other WebGate modules/programs MUST HAVE FULL RIGHTS TO THIS FOLDER, and all folders below it in the directory structure.
Log Directory - The log directory holds all of WebGate's log files. These logs may be used often by the administrator of WebGate. If the WebGate Administration program is to be run from another workstation, the logs should be kept in a shared network folder that both the WebGate server and the administrator's workstation have full access to.
Run on this server - Here you can choose which of WebGate's modules to run on this computer (please refer to 'Advanced Installation' for information on running WebGate across multiple computers). The scheduler module and at least one dialer must be run somewhere in order for WebGate to operate. The GetMail and GetWeb modules are optional, but must be setup on a computer to receive messages via their respective interfaces.
After making your selections, apply your changes.
If you are upgrading from a previous version of WebGate, you will be prompted for a new registration key. You will need to obtain a new key from NotePage, Inc. for this version if you are upgrading from WebGate version 2.x (please refer to the section labeled 'Purchasing').
If a new WebGate database is created, you may be prompted to restart WebGate at this point.
