When NotePager Net is run for the first time, you will be required to enter some initial setup information. This information can be modified later by using NotePager Net's Administration program (NPN Admin). To start NotePager Net, choose 'NotePager Net Server' from your Windows start menu. The default location would be 'Start' > 'Programs' > 'NotePager Net' > 'NotePager Net'. The first window you will see is the 'NotePager Net Setup' window. Here you need to make some choices about where to keep some of NotePager Net's files, and which of NotePager Net's modules you will be using on this computer.
Here are the settings:
Program directory - This tells NotePager Net where its program files reside on the local computer. In most cases this would be where NotePager Net was installed (default: C:\Program Files\NotePager Net\).
Database Directory - This is where NotePager Net will keep its database. If you are upgrading from a previous version of NotePager Net, be sure to enter the same database location as the prior version. The database will be automatically upgraded. If you plan to use the NotePager Net Client, or to run some of NotePager Net's modules on another computer, or to administer NotePager Net from another computer, you should put NotePager Net's database in a shared network folder. IMPORTANT: If you specify a shared network folder, the other NotePager Net modules/programs MUST HAVE FULL RIGHTS TO THIS FOLDER, and all folders below it in the directory structure.
Log Directory - The log directory holds all of NotePager Net's log files. These logs may be used often by the administrator of NotePager Net. If the NotePager Net Administration program is to be run from another workstation, the logs should be kept in a shared network folder that both the NotePager Net server and the administrator's workstation have full access to.
Run on this server - Here you can choose which of NotePager Net's modules to run on this computer (please refer to 'Advanced Installation' for information on running NotePager Net across multiple computers). The scheduler module and at least one dialer must be run somewhere in order for NotePager Net to operate.
After making your selections, apply your changes.
If you are upgrading from a previous version of NotePager Net, you will be prompted for a new registration key. You will need to obtain a new key from NotePage, Inc. for this version if you are upgrading from NotePager Net version 2.x (please refer to the section labeled 'Purchasing').
If a new NotePager Net database is created, you may be prompted to restart NotePager Net at this point.
