PageGate and AVG AntiVirus Email Scanner?

I am hopeing that someone can answer this for me. We use PageGate and AVG antivirus system wide. The users are starting to complain that the AVG Anti-virus is taggin every email (which it should I have the email scanner on system wide). At what point is the PageGate system passing it through the SMTP port/service? Is it at the Client side when they press send or at the PageGate Server side of the world?

AVG is doing that when the Server sends the messages out via SMTP (Port 25).
