I am trying to install on Server 2016. I run the PageGate Admin software "as Administrator". However, when it attempts to create the directory it fails with error, "Cannot create directory". Then goes back to the initial setup screen. I am creating the directory on the "D" drive instead of "C".

I created the root folder, giving the "users" group full control of the root, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

UAC is off on this server.

Any ideas why I am getting this error?

To double check, what directory is it asking you to create? I'm curious to know what the full file path is. Thanks!

Thanks for replying so quickly.

Just changing from "C:\..." to "D:\..."

Leaving the Program Directory alone though.

Original paths:
C:\PageGateData\Database\
C:\PageGateData\Logs\
C:\PageGateData\Archive\
C:\PageGateData\Database\Backup\

New paths:
D:\PageGateData\Database\
D:\PageGateData\Logs\
D:\PageGateData\Archive\
D:\PageGateData\Database\Backup\

It fails out after the first one. I don't want to install the DB on C as the drive is limited in space.

That's super strange and it shouldn't be giving you grief at all.

Humor me, though, and let's try to do something manually.

If you would, create the directories in question on the D: drive and then run regedit.

Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - Software - Wow6432Node - NotePage - PageGate and if they don't already exist, create the following entries:

Name: Archive_Dir
Type: String
Value: D:\PageGateData\Archive\

Name: Backup_Dir
Type: String
Value: D:\PageGateData\Database\Backup\

Name: DB_Dir
Type: String
Value: D:\PageGateData\Database\

Name: Log_Dir
Type: String
Value: D:\PageGateData\Logs\

Then try to launch PG Admin and let me know if it lets you in or errors out/spawns an OCX/DLL error.

Really strange.

I created the directories manually.

Created the registry entries.

Started the program with a double click and with "run as admin" but still comes up like it doesn't see those entries. Like it is a new start.

I click apply either way and it says it still can't create the directories. Maybe a registry permissions issue?

From what we've been able to determine so far, that seems likely.

If it's acting like it's a new setup, it can't see those registry entries but... the entries you just created are in HKLM and the only entries PageGate should ever look for, so they should be global to all user profiles that log into the system.

To double check, are you logged in to Windows on the PageGate server with a local admin/domain admin account?

This is what happens when you are in a rush...

Ignore the earlier posts.

I needed to chose a drive that actually exists! It wasn't D drive, it was E.

Put in a drive letter that actually goes to a writable drive and imagine that it works!

Sorry for wasting your time! LOL. Hopefully you get a good laugh at it.

Just found out carrier doesn't do email to SMS, and so I don't get pager alerts, trying to get this setup so I can get alerts from SolarWinds once again.

For SMS alerts, the old free, public email to SMS gateways are being shut down by the carriers and that really leaves you with three SMS delivery options:

1) SMS API
There are companies like Twilio and ClickSend that offer an internet based API that you can point PageGate at to deliver SMS and they charge a nominal per message fee to do so.

2) Carrier Enterprise System
Each of the major cell carriers has their own respective business messaging platform that PageGate can be configured to deliver SMS through.

3) Cellular Hardware
PageGate supports the connection methods and command sets to use cellular modems, routers and gateways regardless of the manufacturer (Multitech, Airlink, Cisco, CradlePoint, etc)

The fastest solution will probably be to get a test account with Twilio or ClickSend that you can use to verify it works the way you want, then move to their paid/full account for long term SMS delivery.

If you need any assistance with configuration, touch base and let us know!

OK, I think I got everything setup per the Help manual with Twilio.

Is there a way to test before I set it up with SolarWinds?

Do I need to install the GUI?

Do you have PageGate installed on the Solarwinds server or on its' own separate system?

Also, have you done any configuration in the GetAscii interface, yet?

Yes. I have PageGate installed on the SolarWinds server.

I have not done any configuration in the GetAscii interface. Only setup the Twilio connector so far.

Run through the steps outlined here and that should get the integration going:

Ah, thanks. That was my next step. Was wondering if there was a way to test that Twilio is setup properly before I set everything up with SolarWinds?

Sure! You can always send manual messages in the PG Admin interface by right clicking on the recipient or group you want to message and selecting 'Send Message'.

The sender/from field is really only used for tracking purposes and you can leave it blank if you want.

OK, thanks for all the tips.

I am running across and error when trying to send a message using PG Admin. I get the following from the log:

Received: HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request<13><10>{"code":21604,"message":"A 'To' phone number is required.","more_info":"https://www.twilio.com/docs/errors/21604","status":400}

I have verified, delete, readded, attempted many combinations but no matter what I put in the field for my phone number it gets rejected.

FYI, might want to update your help on a couple items:
- the Twilio URL should end with Messages.json (from their directions)
- The SolarWinds instructions are outdated. They don't have that program anymore. It is under "All Settings" and then Alert Configuration.

Thanks again!
