With Sprint migrating to the T-Mobile platform, their TAP gateway will probably be phased out. Does anybody have a preference with either Telemessage or TAP Gateway as an alternative for TAP to SMS? Or maybe even an option that I have not thought about yet?

We've had several clients use Telemessage and TAP Gateway to replace other TAP systems that have been phased out (like when Verizon shut down their TAP system years ago).

As for alternate delivery methods, there is also cellular hardware. NotePager Pro supports using locally connected (USB or RS-232) cellular modems. These devices get to send SMS just like a cell phone does, so there's no dial-out component and you get to submit the messages directly to the cellular network.

We've seen Multitech's MTC-LNA4 function particularly well for our clients in North America. Though, if you're in Canada, we've also seen Microhard's IP4NG work well for that region as well.

Now this could well be an interesting option.... We do happen to have some Multitech MTCM2-L6G1 modems here which I am checking to see if they will work with a T-Mobile SIM card.

Have you seen success with this model so far?

I don't think we've seen that specific model in action but I just checked the product page and documentation (https://www.multitech.com/models/92504420LF) and that model definitely supports the necessary command shell and commands to send and receive SMS. So, that should be an entirely viable device to use, you'll just need to verify what carrier service they support and use a corresponding SIM.

Unfortunately that model was only for PLTE bands only. Therefore I am checking to see if the model previously recommended supports T-Mobile as we have an existing relationship with them, or AT&T it is!

Do you know if anybody has been using the LNA4 modem with Windows Server 2019? There aren't any official drivers on the website, and Multitech says that they have not tested it with Windows 2019 server.

This will help decide if the USB or serial model is chosen... Thank you!

I checked with a vendor that specializes in Multitech hardware and they said they have gotten the LNA4 to work on Server 2019.

It will work - but the RS-232 Serial is preferred to avoid the known Windows USB-COM port issues present in all Windows versions.

Serial version selected just to be sure... Now just have to be patient until the product arrives!

Aaron - I have already sourced a unit to purchase, my slowness stems from the internal processes it takes to send out a purchase order even to an existing vendor! I appreciate the offer and thank you for checking in.

I am pleased to report that my shiny new modem has been delivered. Is there a quick way of swapping over the settings from TAP over to SMS in Notepager Pro?

Absolutely, here's how:

1) Go to Carriers - Edit

2) Highlight your (soon to be former) TAP carrier, click Edit.

3) Change the protocol from TAP to GSMAT.

4) Specify the following and click Apply:
Baud Rate: 115200
Parity: None
Data Bits: 8
Stop Bits: 1
Init String: AT+CSQ

After applying the changes to the carrier, all communication through it should try to use the cell modem instead of a dial-out modem.

I am pleased to report all is now well with my new modem and all is working well in my test environment.

One minor detail that I have noticed is that there's an extra colon (:) at the start of each message that the phones receive. Is there a setting that can be tweaked anywhere?

Thank you!

If you open PG Admin and go to the Program - Template section, what does the Text section of the template look like?
