Just a reminder that Verizon Wireless will be shutting down its CDMA cellular networks on 12/31/19

If you are currently using a cellular modem for SMS and that device is subscribed to the Verizon CDMA network, your recipients will not receive messages through it after that date.

We carry a replacement device that will interface with your system and is approved on the Verizon LTE network.

These devices are available with USB or RS-232 Serial connection to your PageGate PC

Hi Aaron, you remember when I was purchasing cellular modems, the first Company I went to was Verizon and I was told that they do NOT allow a modem attached to a server on their network. Has this changed? I had to settle with AT&T and Sprint.

Hi Dan,

Not sure why your Verizon Rep told you that - I have many customers using cellular modems with their PageGate systems on the VZW network and have had for years. I do know that there were some issues years ago with the cellular network that Verizon purchased from Alltel due to hardware/software incompatibility - but those were long since resolved. That is what prompted my post - Verizon is deactivating their legacy CDMA system and moving to a complete LTE network.

Many of my Public Safety customers have also provisioned access between PageGate and the Verizon Enterprise Messaging system (their term is EMAG). In those cases, PageGate uses WCTP or SNPP to send messages into the cellular network as the primary transmission method but reverts to the cellular modems in the event the local internet connection goes down (because we both knwo that never happens, right?)
