|
|
HI all:
We are trying to configure Pagegate (v7) to send out via serial to a Zetron 2100 terminal. We have successfully been able to communicate to the Zetron terminal via the zBase software.
However, when trying to send directly from pagegate, it doesn't work. I've included a log below. I've perused the forums and tried various serial settings to no avail--all I seem to get is a difference in the "reply" character in the log, but none of them appear to be what should be expected in the TAP protocol.
Connector settings:
init string (blank)
Dialing prefix (blank)
Serial Port (2)
Direct Connect checked
Carrier Settings
TAP
no phone #
300,e,7.1
Init string - auto
Max chars 240

Based on the response you're receiving, it looks like you may not have the cable plugged in to the TAP port on the Zetron terminal.
For example, from your log:
7/7/2016 9:50:12 AM Sent:<CR>
7/7/2016 9:50:14 AM Received:<127>
The response you're receiving is <127>, which is Ascii value 127, which translates as a "Delete" character or DEL statement.
The way the TAP protocol works is that the sending system sends a carriage return (recorded as <CR> in the logs) and is supposed to receive the text "ID=" from the receiving system. |

Thanks for the reply. If you see in my original email, we are able to successfully connect (from the same computer, perhaps I should have specified that) to the Zetron terminal using their software...so i dont think its a cabling issue.
Unless you are saying there are different ports? i will check that.
Thanks

When you were connecting to the terminal, what response did you see from the other end? Did you hit enter on your keyboard and receive an "ID=" ? |

(1) I looked, the only other RS-232 on the zetron is a printer port.
(2) When I connect through putty or a terminal, i also get a backspace. If i change some of the settings, i get different characters but none of them are <ID>...i've tried the CR too and nothing.

You may want to verify with Zetron that your model 2100 has a TAP port and, if it does, that the TAP port has been configured. It sounds like you're getting Zbase responses on the port at present. |

Additionally, make sure you are using a NULL modem cable - NOT a typical Serial Cable_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

Thank you--Just a question, if it was a cable issue, wouldnt it also prevent the Zbase software on the same computer from communicating properly? we found a county nearby who is using a similar setup and we're going to reach out to them as well.

Not necessarily. Zbase has a routine/function that checks for the presence or absence of a null modem connection when directly connected and can alternate between the two as it detects. The TAP protocol, on the other hand, can only function via null modem cable when directly connected. |

As an update, We were able to resolve it...it turns out the technician only had the connection setup for zBaseW, not the multiport serial adapter for TAP...we added the second RS-232, had zetron set up the terminal, added a null modem connection and configured it and it appears to work fine. Now i'm having a different issue that i'll post as a new thread.
Thanks for all of your help.
