Hi,
I'm evaluating PageGate to integrate with PRTG.
I set up and configured the application. I'm trying to get it to run as a service, but it keeps failing after the "Verifying Account Information" with a message "Invalid account or password,"
- PageGate is installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server that is part of a domain.
- The account that I used to install PageGate is part of the domain admins group.
- I've tried with three different accounts all members of the domain admins group, but I get the same error with each.
- I've tried accountname alone and domain\accountname in the Account field
- PageGate is NOT installed on the same drive as the OS. I have it on another partition
- Somewhere in this forum someone recommended to grant full permissions to the PageGate folder to the account that I'm trying to run the service as. Still no dice.

I'm not sure what to try next.
The only caveat that I have for my set up is that the server where I'm running PageGate is a DC. I'll be demoting it soon, but not yet. Some applications don't deal well with systems that have their local admins settings modified as it's the case with DC's. Is PG perhaps one of those?

When you run the PageGate Admin, right click on it and left click on the "Run As Administrator" option. If the Admin doesn't have UAC authorization, even if the UAC is disabled, Windows won't allow it to modify the portion of the registry to create the Services.

What directory do you have PageGate installed to?

Just to verify, is the D: drive a local drive or a mapped network drive?

The Program Files (x86) folder is virtualized to each user profile in Windows in UAC enabled Operating Systems like Server 2008. So, here's what you'll want to do:

1) Go to our website, http://www.notepage.net

2) In the center of the page, left click on the Download option under the PageGate section.

3) Save the pgsetup.exe file to your desktop.

4) Go in to the Control Panel in Windows.

5) Go to Programs and Features.

6) Highlight PageGate and click on Uninstall.

7) Click on Next and then, when prompted, do the "Program Uninstall" NOT the "Full Uninstall"

8) After the uninstallation procedure is complete, right click on the file pgsetup.exe you downloaded in step 1 and select the "Run As Administrator" option.

9) After the extraction process, when presented with the four installation options, the ONLY one you want to do is the "Install PageGate Server" option.

10) When the PageGate Server installation begins, click next.

11) Click Next on the second step.

12) When it prompts you for the Installation directory, click on browse.

13) Change the installation directory to D:\PageGate\

14) Left click on OK.

15) Left click on next.

16) Left click on Next.

17) Left click on Finish.

18) After the installation finishes, find the PageGate program group in your start menu.

19) Since this is the first time we're running the PageGate Admin, you MUST right click on the shortcut and select the "Run As Administrator" option.

20) When prompted for the Program Defaults, we want:
Program Directory: D:\PageGate\
Database Directory: D:\PageGateData\Database\ Archive Directory: D:\PageGateData\Archive\ Logs Directory: D:\PageGateData\Logs\

17) Left click on Apply and it should bring you in to the PageGate Admin, where all of your settings should still be intact.

Next we want to switch the Run Style of PageGate:

1) After you have PageGate configured, go to your Start Menu and find the PageGate program group.

2) Right click on the PageGate Server shortcut and left click on Run as Administrator.

3) Allow and Authorize each prompt by Windows 7.

4) After the server has run, you'll see an icon of a pager in the system try (next to the clock in Windows).

5) Back in the PG Admin, go to Program - Settings.

6) In the "Run PageGate as" section, select Windows Service.

7) Left click on Apply.

8) When prompted for credentials, leave them blank and click on Apply again.

9) After the "Switching Run Styles" dialog has gone away, left click on the icon of the pager in your system tray and left click on Start.

PageGate support recommended installing the software right on the root of the drive (i.e. D:\PagGate) or at least not under Program Files (x86) folder.

Changing the installation location to D:\Pagegate worked.
