|
|
I'm trying to install the PageGate v5.0 client on a handful of machines but during install I get the following error message:
"C:\Windows\system32\OLE2.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error."
This comes up a few times then the installation completes. When I try to launch the client it gives me a run time error 3265 message.
This install is on Windows 7 Pro, SP1.
Any help would be really appreciated.

When you do the installation on a UAC enabled operating system like Windows 7 and Windows 8, when you perform the installation, right click on the installation file and select the "Run as Administrator" option to authorize the installation with the UAC.
Also, the very first time you run the PageGate Client, be sure to right click on the shortcut and left click on the "Run As Administrator" option to grant the program UAC authorization as well. You can run it normally thereafter. |

Thank you for the quick reply. I did do the install as administrator and I turned off UAC on the OS. I got the same results.

In some very rare cases, you may need to manually register the DLL file you're receiving the error about:
1) In Windows on that workstation, run a command prompt with elevated permissions.
2) Change directory in to the c:\Windows\System32\ folder.
3) Type the following and hit enter:
regsvr32 OLE2.dll
You should receive a notification that the file was successfully registered. After that, try to run the client and see if you get the same 3265 error. |

That DLL is not actually in System32. I found it in another folder and moved it to system32 to register it, but it appears that it's a 32bit dll and the workstations are 64 bit.
I'm wondering if I have the correct installer. Are there different v5 installers for 32 vs 64 bit?

Since you're still using version 5 and I'm not sure which build you have, I'd recommend downloading the last installation file we put out for version 5: http://www.notepage.net/download/pgv5.0.95.exe
There were quite a few compatibility updates we did for Windows Vista, 7, 8 and Server 2008 for PageGate version 5 close to the end of the dev cycle for that version, so try installing with the last installation file and let us know if that resolves the issue, please. |

You really should upgrade from v5 to v6 - it is only $100.00_________________ Aaron D. Osgood
