tried a couple different different drivers on our Solarwinds Server.
We are using Pagegate and when I send a test message Connector Attempts to reset modem
Sent:AT<CR> 3 times adn eventually fails. I suspect the driver, but have been unable to locate a good one.
Need technical assistance.

Solarwinds intergration project with PageGate:
Server 2008 R2 (no Sp1)

reinstalled, different drivers, bounce the box a few times..same thing?

Please advise

First thing to try is to verify the COM port and modem are working correctly.

Try doing this:

The first step is to download this simple Terminal program:

http://www.notepage.net/support/vbterm.zip

After you have it downloaded:

1) Unzip the vbterm.zip file to a directory of your chosing and run the setup.exe file that is unzipped.

2) Once the program is installed, open it.

3) In VBTerm, go to CommPort -> Properties.

4) In the properties, set the port to whatever port your modem uses. The rest of the settings here really don't matter.

5) Go to CommPort and click on Open.

If the doet goes green, type the following and hit enter:

AT

You should get an 'OK' response back. If not then there is a COM port or modem problem. If you do get a response, verify that PageGate's connector is setup to use that same COM port that worked in VBTerm.

You wrote "get nothing with PuTTY" - this means that the device is not actually connected to the COM port as far as the OS is concerned. Are you certain you used the correct driver package from MultiTech? There are different packages for the 32 bit and 64 bit versions

ftp://ftp.multitech.com/modeminfs/windows-64bit/2008/2008server-64.zip

ftp://ftp.multitech.com/modeminfs/windows-32bit/2008/2008server-32.zip

64 bit driver won't load at all..

I'm using the zipped up windows drivers, which loaded a Win7 32bit driver.

the server 2008 64bit driver fails.. I even tried to force it in..

Are you logged into that system as THE ADMINISTRATOR? (Not a user with administrative rights, but, the built in Windows System Administrator)

Once you get to the point where PuTTY can interface with the COM port and pass commands, then PageGate will have no problems.

You MAY want to open a support ticket with MultiTech as well
