I am doing some testing, and I am trying to get PageGate to send WCTP messages to one of our internally-developed servers on our LAN. Our server listens on port 50100. When I use this port, I see "Program Halted. Database error: 3219 Invalid operation in Procedure: SendWCTP". This error disappears when I use port 80 for WCTP.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Taylor

As far as I'm aware, WCTP has to go over port 80. I've never seen a WCTP host that listened to or communicated on anything other than port 80 because the WCTP protocol uses certain types of http headers and formatting. If you're seeing that 3219 error, it depends on where it's showing up but it could either mean that you're receiving an invalid response from the host or not receiving a response at all or the response is encrypted. If you would, please email a copy of the log to support at notepage dot com so we can have a look at the error in context.

We ran a packet capture on port 80, and saw traffic arrive at our from PageGate server. However, when we tried port 50100 for WCTP, nothing. Log follows. Port 80 is already being used for other purposes.

I continued to experiment with other ports. I tried port 7777, and no longer saw this behavior in the log file. However, I did notice that the traffic from PageGate was sent to port 80. It appears that the selection of 7777 was ignored.

After you changed the port - did you STOP and theSTART PageGate?

Hi Aaron,

I believe so. I went to PageGate Admin, and under Connectors/Connector1, I stopped it and then started it again. Is this correct? I also restarted the PC and then monitored the traffic. It still appears to be going port 80, even though I experimented with assigning the WCTP port to 7777.

Thanks for your help!

Taylor

IF you're running as a service, rebooting the PC will do it, but that is srt of like swatting flies with a sledge hammer! :-)

To STOP PageGate correctly, click on the pager icon in the bottom right corner and select "Stop". if you're running monitor, you'll see when all modules properly shut down. Once you see that, click the icon agn then select "Start". This will allow PageGate to start each module in the proper sequence

Hi Aaron,

Tried that too. No luck. I am running Wireshark and am monitoring the traffic on the PC PageGate is on. Is is all going to port 80 of the destination. The only time it doesn't is when I pick port 50100, when I get the database error.

Thanks again,

Taylor

I was having this same error with TAP and was going to post here, but am running a modem on a USB - Serial converter. I shut the modem off, disconnected the USB cable, turned the modem on and reconnected the USB cable - noting the modem reset flashes on the LEDs. This cleared up my problem for now so it seemed to be a communication error.

Why this seems to recur every other month is a different story, but now I know the solution is not to fix the database!

You might check with the modem manufacturer's tech support on that. It sounds like the modem itself needs to be physically reset every so often. Could be a driver issue? Could be a firmware updated needed?

@Donb01: Sounds like outdated modem drivers

@Taylor: Are you certain you have the carrier settings correct? What are you using for a WCTP host for the carrier you named "VDS"?
