|
|
Until 2 days ago our Pagegate was working fine, we are not sure what happened but suddenly PG stopped working. When we assessed the problem it seems that the modem locks on TX but is not actively dialing anything. When in this state if a modem scan is run the modem will not appear on com1. When we shut down GetTap the modem unlocks and can be used by hyperterminal or notepage, as soon as we activate GetTap the modem goes into a locked state and is no longer accessable by any program including PageGate. Any ideas? System is up-to-date with java and win security updates. Runs on a locked down network. As I said worked fine till 2 days ago, we have swapped out 3 modems same issues in all of them, we have also update PageGate to 5.0.9.3 and the problem persists. Thanks for any help.

I can't recall ever having seen this happen before... this is really quite odd. At the risk of asking a silly question, did something on the system change two days ago? There really isn't anything in PageGate proper that would suddenly change to make this happen, so I wonder what happened on the system that changed the way things are working. |

Well this is where it gets confusing, we don't know since it is a sms managed network a windows or java or security update may have pushed down to the machine but no way of knowing. The part that is confusing is that GetTap seems to be the only thing having a problem, unfortuately that is a critical problem as we use PG in the capacity of sending out text message alerts to us about our servers. I found a similar issue on this link (http://www.notepage.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7568524&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=modem+locked+tap
) but we have tried both direct and non direct on the connector, same results.
I have a connector log excerpt from last time gettap activated but it doesn't provide answers.

Just out of curiosity, if you shut GetTAP down and open HyperTerminal. Once there, set it to use the COM port, not the modem itself. Once you're in, type ATS0=1 and hit enter.
If it comes back with 'OK', have a system try to dial in to the modem and let me know if it actually handshakes and connects. |

Is Windows FAX service deactivated? I have seen these symptoms occur after a Winblows security update that turned faxing back on. The Windows FAX service attempts to reserve sole use of the COM port driving the modem_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

Thanks that may be it I will check and make sure that it is off and get back to you. I am also going to try to restore an older copy of the database to see if that corrects the problem, managed to find one with our current setups and alarm files so do not have to rebuild the whole thing.

We have found a solution but it doesn't make much sense. We have GetTap running and enabled in pagegate (we can not send text batches to Telus without it), but in Windows services we have the GetTap service disabled. This seems to be providing us with the ability to send out a text batch without the modem being locked by the GetTap module? It is a very imperfect solution but seems to be the only way we can get the system to work the way it was before.
